    Description


    Applies principles, methods, and techniques of civil engineering as they relate to the analysis and design of drainage and storm water systems.

    Assists with water resources projects including GIS database development and analysis, drainage calculations for input into hydrologic and hydraulic models and preliminary model development.

    Learns and utilizes hydrologic and hydraulic models to perform simple analyses, gradually building to more complex models and analyses.
    Writes technical summaries of work completed, which may include portions of technical memorandum, permit submittals or reports.
    Continually learns and develops knowledge of storm water and floodplain requirements for various government agencies.

    Performs reviews of calculations within storm water submittals on behalf of municipal or County entities, utilizing the storm water and floodplain requirements for the government agency.

    Effectively communicates project status and timelines with supervisor and colleagues, on a daily and/or weekly basis via 1-on-1 conversations, emails, or team meetings.

    May attend client meetings.
    Continually improves and develops an understanding and familiarity with how project budgets are created and executed.
    Works in an effective and efficient manner to assist in completing projects on time and under budget.
    Builds knowledge of industry terms, processes and procedures through mentoring, self learning, and use of technology.
    Follows the Department QA/QC process for all projects.
    Organizes and maintains project files.

    Key Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited curriculum or equivalent.

    Engineer Intern (EI) Certification in the State of Illinois or other applicable states, or ability to attain within 12 months.

    0-4 years of experience with job-related work (full-time, part-time, internship).
    Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software applications including HECRAS, HEC-RAS, TR-20, SWMM, HY-8, Hydraflow or others.
    Experience with GIS.
