- Perform their duties in a responsible and professional manner consistent with standard operating procedures and best management practices.
- Operate and maintain treatment works so as not to endanger the health or safety of persons working in or around the facility, the public at large or the environment.
- Be knowledgeable of all permit requirements issued by EPA. Report all instances of apparent non-compliance to supervisor as soon as possible. It is the maintenance workers responsibility to document efforts to rectify the problem and alert their supervisor.
- Maintain operation and maintenance logs for treatment works. Logs are to be kept on-site in an accessible location for 24 hr inspection. The logs should be protected from weather damage.
- The logs shall contain: date and time of in and out, including emergencies
- Work involves responsibility for routine and emergency maintenance/operation of all treatment works including, but not limited to: plant processing equipment, sludge handling, chemical feed systems, pumps, motors, removal of scum, grit, and a variety of specialized equipment in pumping stations and treatment plants as well as the servicing of buildings and grounds.
- Ability to work with operations staff to perform repairs as needed.
- Ability to inspect mechanical and electrical equipment and to become aware of problems in its operation, and to effect remedial measures.
- Repair and overhaul equipment.
- Ability to make rational decisions concerning problems in emergency situations
- Incumbents are required to become thoroughly trained on all equipment under normal and emergency conditions and are accountable for the training of inexperienced personnel.
- Work is normally performed under supervision and is reviewed through inspection of records, equipment and facilities, observations and results of the treatment works effectiveness.
- Prepare orders for purchasing, keep accurate inventory, keep updated information on all equipment including preventative maintenance, use mapping programs
- 24 hour, 7days per week call outs, with on-call rotations
- Possess at least a valid Class I Wastewater License issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency or a Collections System I.
- Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school preferably supplemented by the completion of approved course work in treatment works, electrical training, plumbing, welding, carpentry, electronics, Scada Systems.
- Possess a valid State of Ohio Drivers License; maintained in good standing.

Summary
This is skilled trade classification, as further described in this job description, in the maintenance of wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations, also referred as Treatment Works.
Essential Job Functions
The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

This is a competitive, classified position. The Personnel Review Commission (PRC) will check your application to make sure you meet the minimum qualifications. If you do, the PRC will invite you to take a civil service examination. The exam is specific to this position. Everyone who passes the exam goes on an eligibility list.
To fill this opening, the PRC sends the hiring department and Human Resources (HR) a certified eligibility list with the top 25% candidates (or at least the ten highest scoring candidates, whichever is greater).
HR helps the hiring department decide who from the certified list to follow up with for interviews and then a job offer.
