We have an _immediate_ need for a part-time, non-exempt
Eureka Athletics Instructor.

Our Teen and Middle School department oversees the Eureka Program, an intensive program designed to build girls' confidence and skills through hands-on opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

The Eureka program also incorporates sports and physical fitness, healthy living, and personal development to foster the 'whole girl' developmental approach.

As a member of the Teen and Middle School department, the
Eureka Athletics Instructor leads the athletics component of the program for girls in grades


POSITION OVERVIEW (What we're looking for)

The
Eureka Athletics Instructor promotes safety and an optimal learning environment through physical fitness and sports activities. Reporting to the Middle School Program Manager, the
Eureka Athletics Instructor is based primarily at the Girls, Inc.

of Boston and Lynn office (_50 High Street, Lynn, MA)._ This role will also provide oversight and supervision of activities at a nearby gym and pool.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES (What you'll be achieving)
At a minimum, the
Eureka Athletics Instructor will be responsible for successfully carrying out the following essential functions and duties:

  • Plan and conduct physical activities daily for the girls between the ages of 12 and 1
  • Supervise the girls' activities and implement redirection and appropriate discipline techniques with assertiveness and consistency.
  • Accurately track the girls' attendance and participation in class daily.
  • Ensure safety during onsite and offsite activities, demonstrating leadership during expeditions and group field trips.
  • Provide direction and management to a teen intern.
  • Develop a class outline and evaluation plan for the athletic component of the Eureka program.
  • Participate in all preEureka staff trainings, regular weekly meetings, and a final debrief meeting.
  • Prepare and deliver a final report, including detailed lesson plans and evaluation results.
  • Assist Eureka special events, including parent/member orientation, the Eurekaathon field day, and graduation.
  • Support other Eureka components, such as other classes and field trips.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (What you'll bring along)

Education:
Bachelor of Arts degree in a related field from an accredited university is preferred. College undergraduates are encouraged to apply, as similar work experience may substitute for the education requirement.

  • Educational and/or professional background in teaching or coaching athletics.
  • Experience working with youth between the ages of 12 and 15, preferably girls and/or youth residing in urban areas.
  • Strong interest in gender equity.
  • Ability to lead group facilitation activities.
  • Solid understanding of the importance of promoting STEM initiatives and empowering girls to pursue STEM fields of study.
  • Demonstrated ability to be professional, personable, creative, innovative, and flexible.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Ability to successfully complete a comprehensive, preemployment background check process.
