Position Summary


The Dana Point Chamber of Commerce is a vibrant organization dedicated to supporting local businesses and fostering a thriving community in Dana Point.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Events Manager to join our team and play a key role in planning and executing a wide range of community events.


This role requires strong event planning abilities, problem-solving, an outgoing personality and proficiency in budgeting as well as state, county, and local permitting.

In addition to helping plan networking and community events, this role will assist with social media postings & community outreach about the Chamber's programs and happenings.


Responsibilities and Duties

Event Planning_

  • Plan, organize, and execute various events, including but not limited to networking events, fundraisers, seminars, and community festivals.
  • Annual events include an awards gala, Festival of Whales, Dana Point Classic Car Show and the Dana Point Turkey Trot, among others.
  • Coordinate with vendors, sponsors, and partners to ensure smooth event logistics and successful collaborations.
  • Develop event budgets, track expenses, and manage financial aspects to ensure events are costeffective and within budgetary guidelines.
  • Proactively seek sponsorship opportunities to support Chamber programs and events, fostering mutually beneficial partnerships that enhance our offerings and community impact.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Sales Manager to create event marketing strategies, including promotional materials, social media campaigns, and press releases to maximize event visibility and attendance.
  • Manage event staff and volunteers, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure events are executed efficiently and professionally.
  • Evaluate event success using key performance indicators (KPIs) and feedback mechanisms and provide postevent analysis and recommendations for future improvements.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to event planning and management.

Community Outreach_

  • Maintains the Chamber website, ensuring that updates are made on a timely basis.
  • Works with Marketing & Communications Manager to create event collateral and assets needed for promotion
  • Promote Chamber programs and events through local news publications and diverse social media platforms, aiming to boost ticket sales and increase overall exposure for our initiatives.

Characteristics & Skills Required:


  • Holds a fouryear degree or can demonstrate equivalent job experience.
  • Proven experience in event planning and management, with a track record of successfully executing a variety of events.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fastpaced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams, vendors, sponsors, and community stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and social media platforms.
  • Familiarity with WordPress, Wix sites and database programs. Experience with Canva & Constant Contact/MailChimp a bonus.
  • Creative mindset, attention to detail, and a passion for creating memorable and impactful events.
  • Not afraid to make asks whether it's negotiating contracts, soliciting sponsorships, or working with vendors and volunteers.
  • A great sense of humor

Working Environment


This position requires on-site presence from Monday through Friday, during standard office hours (9am - 5:30pm), with flexibility to accommodate occasional evening, weekend and holiday work schedules.

The physical requirements of this job include the capacity to work at a desk for prolonged periods, stand for over five hours, and walk several city blocks.
