Dean of Students.


We are looking for a team player who will be a compassionate leader, committed to equity and excellence in education, skilled in developing a nurturing yet disciplined school culture, and adept at managing student needs effectively.


The
Dean of Students is responsible for overseeing student behavior, managing disciplinary hearings, and acting as the Principal in their absence.


The
Dean of Students operates under the direct supervision of the PVRS Principal, indirectly under the Superintendent, and in compliance with the policies of the School Committee and State Laws.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Acting Principal in the Principals absence, overseeing all school operations
  • Support and oversee student behavior and schoolwide discipline to ensure a positive school culture, with consistency and fairness
  • Lead a team comprising staff, students, and community members to create and implement a restorative justice disciplinary model
  • Conduct disciplinary hearings in line with school policies
  • Lead the annual review of the school handbook and policy implementation
  • Communicate effectively with families and students regarding student behavior and disciplinary issues and their resolutions
  • Help implement schoolwide best practices in SEL through regular collaboration with teachers
  • Provide professional development in restorative practices and support teachers in enhancing SEL and classroom management strategies
  • Oversee MCAS testing and reporting
  • Track and analyze discipline and attendance data to identify trends and improve policies
  • Participate in at last one communityfacing event per month to foster strong schoolcommunity relationships
  • Create and manage teacher duty schedules
  • Participate in managing schoolwide events such as dances and graduation
  • Oversee student attendance
  • Participate in building the master schedule
  • Be an active member of the districts diversity, equity, and inclusion team

Pioneer Valley Regional School

With 240 students in Grades 7-12, PVRS boasts an impressive array of arts, athletics, and academic programming that belies its small size.

The schools 95 acres comprise the largest public school campus in the state and features hiking and mountain biking trails, an ecology pond, and a federally-certified vernal pool.

PVRS is part of a small, cohesive, and forward-thinking district (PVRSD) in beautiful Western Massachusetts.

Nestled along the Connecticut River, and bordering both Vermont and New Hampshire, our district is at the literal crossroads of a tri-state region rich with agricultural and cultural resources.

The district serves 620 students across three schools PreK-12 and has an annual budget of almost $17 million.

The district is in an exciting period of rejuvenation, with a School Committee that has made major financial commitments in support of environmental education, curriculum renewal, and hands-on learning.
