Job Summary:

Builds, troubleshoots, and tests electronic circuits, harnesses, and assemblies; creates and maintains documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Certifies/tests lab for electro-static discharge effectiveness.

Works with other organizations to obtain support with parts, mechanical support, calibrations, etc.; works with outside vendors. Assists with test and test procedure design.

Troubleshoots circuits of advanced complexity.

Designs, builds, tests and troubleshoots prototype electronic circuits, harnesses, and assemblies. Troubleshoots and tests current products; prepares and conducts product demonstrations.

Generates documentation using appropriate application software. Manages lab work requests; documents and administers workflows. Completes schedules, planning, reviews, and releases.

Develops test result report formats.

Trains and leads other technicians and technical support specialists assigned to the lab.

Understands and apply appropriate Company and department rules and guidelines to work and to systems; participate in the maintenance of quality procedures. Develops and conduct training programs; provide counseling, mentoring, and coaching.

Serves as company representatives in various capacities to customers, suppliers, and outside agencies. Interacts effectively with alls of employees throughout the company.

Exercises independent decision-making and initiative in determining what needs to be done and planning and implementing the needed activities; perform problem solving, creative technical and analytical work, budget management, and hands-on applications; coordinate programs including planning, scheduling, ordering, and tracking.

Demonstrates adaptability and responsiveness to changing work needs and willingness to undertake new tasks as they become evident; initiate, develop, lead, and participate in improvement projects.

Knows and comply with all safety policies and procedures; demonstrate confidentiality as required. Shares work with exempt and other OCU employees as required.

Manages own work and maintain a flexible schedule in order to meet the demands of priority work; participate in self- and team-audits and associated corrective action; plan and engage in continuous learning in order to be prepared for changing work demands.

Travels as required by the position.

Performs other miscellaneous duties, as required to get the job done.

Responsibilities

Competencies: 
Data Acquisition - Prepares samples, verifies equipment calibration and performs tests according to an approved standard procedure or work instruction in a manner which ensures, and results in, data that can be trusted and delivered to the engineer or customer. 

Data Reporting - Prepares documentation in a manner which clearly organizes and presents testing methods, instrument settings, the data and analysis to allow the engineer and customer to understand the results and form accurate conclusions and recommendations. 

Product Problem Solving - Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; and identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence. 

Product Software Design and Construction - Constructs product software using industry best practices and robust software engineering principles; verifies software updates to ensure quality products. 

Collaborates - Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives. 

Communicates effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.

Education, Licenses, Certifications: 
High school diploma, GED or equivalent required with Department of Labor Certification OR
Associates degree from an accredited program in a related field and at least two years of relevant experience OR Bachelors degree in a related field.
Must pass all related testing.

Experience: 
Department of Labor Certification OR four year experience/education requirement accomplished through either Bachelors degree in related field OR associates
degree in related field and at least two years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

Core responsibilities or activities:

  1. Build, troubleshoot, repair and provide preventative maintenance for various internally designed test systems including associated harnessing.
  2. Create and maintain test system related documentation such as electrical/mechanical CAD drawings and build/test/maintenance procedures.

Skills, education or experience requirements:

  1. Electronics (Analog/Digital circuit design, Circuit build/troubleshooting, PCB design and layout, Soldering (through hole and SMT), Wire harness building)
  2. Computers (Windows OS installation and configuration management, BIOS/UEFI configuration, installing/upgrading drivers/applications, Troubleshooting various computer related software/hardware issues, Disk imaging, Computer networking fundamentals, Computer assembly/disassembly) 
  3. Mechanical (Use of hand tools, Use of basic power tools, Dial calipers, Cutting/shaping/fastening)

Skills, education or experience nice to have:

  1. Programming experience (C, Python, SQL, LabVIEW)
  2. NI experience (Hardware:  (PXI, PCI, cRIO, cDAQ) Software:  (TestStand/Veristand))
  3. CAN (CAN/CANFD Standards and SAE J1939 a plus)
