    Smithsonian SecretaryLonnie G. Bunch III and the institution's leadership are launchinga campaign to support this vision.

    The Smithsonian Campaign for OurShared Future will secure funds for all Smithsonian museums andcenters as the institution reimagines its mission to find solutionsfor collective challenges in a rapidly changing world.

    The campaignwill provide a foundation for critical research to ensure peopleand nature thrive together, build unparalleled education programswith families and partners, collect the world's most preciousobjects, document the present while reflecting on the past, andreimagine the visitor experience both in-person and online.

    We arebringing the Smithsonian off the National Mall and across thecountry through dynamic programming and affiliate partnerships,creating access for all.

    The Smithsonian is also developing two newmuseums—the National Museum of the American Latino and theSmithsonian American Women's History Museum.

    These museums willshare the experiences and perspectives of Latinos and women acrosshistory and deepen our shared understanding of whatit meansto be American.

    The Anacostia Community Museum was established by theSmithsonian Institution in September 1967 as the AnacostiaNeighborhood Museum in Southeast Washington, D.C.

    It sharesthe untold and often overlooked stories of communities furthestfrom justice in the greater Washington, D.C. region. Incelebrating stories of resiliency, joy, and strength, the museuminspires those who visit to translate their ideas into action.

    TheSmithsonian's Center for Environmental Justice at the AnacostiaCommunity Museum launched on Earth Day 2023 and seeks to create afuture in which environmentalism is a cornerstone of civicengagement through which residents contribute to the development ofhealthy, equitable communities.

    The Center encourages ahumanities-led framework that places traditional scientificresearch and data in the context of daily life.
    Key Responsibilities
    The Smithsonian's Anacostia Community Museum seeks anexperienced, dynamic, front-line fundraiser to assume the role ofAssistant Director of Advancement.

    Working closely with theDirector of External Affairs, the Assistant Director oversees allfundraising at the Museum, including foundation grants, majorgifts, annual fund, and cultivation events.

    The incumbent managesrelationships with current and prospective donors, includingidentifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors.

    Regular interaction with donors and prospects is expected, anddirect, independent solicitation of gifts from individual andinstitutional donors is a central aspect of the position.

    TheAssistant Director develops and manages activity for the portfolioof prospects ranging from major gifts to principal gifts and seeksopportunities to expand the portfolio and increase giving fromcurrent donors.

    The incumbent oversees and fully participates inall Advisory Board activities. The incumbent reports to theDirector of External Affairs and supervises one gift officer.
    Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

    Successful applicants will have a minimum of five years ofsuccessful experience in fundraising with increasing level ofresponsibility preferably in a museum or community-based non-profitsetting.

    A demonstrated track record of building long-term donorrelationships and closing 5-7 figure gifts. Strong organizational,relationship, collaboration, communication, project management, andsupervisory skills as well as the ability to work independently areessential.
    A demonstrated understanding of and dedication to the mission ofthe Anacostia Community Museum should be included with theapplication. A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree ishighly desirable. Travel is required and work during the eveningand weekends may be necessary.
