    Summary

    Fidelity Investments has established a direct lending team to build a significant presence in the large direct lending / private credit market. Our leveraged finance platform targets middle-market private equity owned businesses seeking private financing for LBO's, acquisitions, dividends and other investments. We are looking for investor-minded, entrepreneurial, and accomplished candidates looking to join our team on the ground floor, make a meaningful impact, and help leverage the Fidelity name in this growing market.

    The Group

    The High Income & Alternatives group has more than $100B in assets under management (AUM) that are invested "across the capital structure," including in high yield bonds, leveraged loans, convertible bonds and equities. Fundamental research is the foundation of the group's investment process.

    The Role

    Based in San Francisco, this is an opportunity to join a growing team for the newly formed middle market direct lending strategy of Fidelity's High Income & Alternatives group. This is an important strategy for Fidelity where you will be responsible for establishing the investment capabilities for a targeted group of private equity firms, investment banks, direct lenders, and other relevant referral sources. This individual will be responsible for all aspects of the investment process, including sourcing, structuring, due diligence and loan documentation, as well as be a key member of the post closing investment management team.

    Responsibilities
    • Promote the Fidelity brand internally and externally and contribute to a thriving, engaged, and empowered culture at all levels of our firm
    • Maintain and/or establish active relationships with key members of targeted middle market private equity firms to immediately contribute to the investment pipeline of opportunities.
    • Institutionalize a deep understanding of each relationship by monitoring and reporting material fund raising, investment and portfolio activities
    • Originate investment opportunities that fit the group's strategy
    • Evaluate credit investments with a mind towards efficiently screening clean and more storied opportunities, leveraging Fidelity's proprietary research capabilities, and understanding downside protection and appropriate risk / reward dynamics
    • Lead and coordinate with the deal team to execute screening, underwriting, approval and closing processes for each investment opportunity
    • Support oversight of investments post-closing, including responsibility for any increases, amendments or restructurings
    • Lead and mentor junior members of the direct lending strategy
    Qualifications

    We are seeking candidates who have the following characteristics:
    • Bachelor's Degree required, advanced degree and/or CFA charter holder preferred
    • 15+ years of relevant middle market private credit experience, including at least 7 years of middle market loan origination experience, preferably working with private equity sponsors.
    • Experience with relationship management and ability to work with various stakeholders including sponsors, borrowers, other lenders and advisors
    • Keen understanding of credit and risk mitigation
    • Comprehensive knowledge of middle market lending with a creative and balanced approach to credit structuring and pricing
    • Willingness to travel will be required and could be up to 50% domestic post pandemic
    All candidates will be well-rounded, high energy investment professionals with a strong credit background, and ideal candidates will have some of the following additional characteristics:
    • Strong preference for technology / software services and/or financial services experience at a premier direct lending platform
    • Established track records with several top tier private equity sponsors to contribute to the pipeline of potential investment opportunities.
    • Direct relationships with other large arrangers and network of direct lenders for underwriting and capital markets activities with a mind towards syndications and reciprocal deal flow

Currently, most hybrid roles require associates to work onsite all business days of one assigned week per four-week period (beginning in September 2024, the requirement will be two full assigned weeks).
