Reporting to the Director, Leave Management, and working closely with all members of the Leave Management Office (LMO), the Manager coordinates and administers all aspects of employee leaves, workplace accommodations, and related programs to ensure compliance with University policies and federal and state leave regulations while providing expert guidance and excellent customer service to employees, managers, and human resources professionals.


Responsibilities:


  • Administer all University leave of absence programs, including but not limited to family and medical leave of absence, nonmedical leave of absence, paid parental leave, military Leave, shortterm disability, and longterm disability.
  • Maintain expert and current knowledge of federal and state leave laws and regulations. Ensure federal and state compliance with all leaves, including certification of FMLA leaves.
  • Advise managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws and University policies. Resolve all leave inquiries, and educate employees and managers on the leave process.
  • Provide effective case management on claims/cases as applicable.
  • Partner and consult with internal departments, as needed, to coordinate any action items resulting from an employee's leave.
  • Work closely with internal colleagues in Health and Wellness and the HRBPs to address and resolve escalated concerns.
  • Draft and maintain regular communication between employees, disability vendors, and attending physicians to address any necessary treatment plan, recovery, and physical and mental capabilities to facilitate return to work.
  • Facilitate leaverelated training sessions for employees, managers, and human resources professionals.
  • Track leave time and work with employees and managers to ensure proper timekeeping. Preserve confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files.
  • Collaborate with disability vendors and the LMO to effectively manage return to work for employees returning from a leave of absence with medical restrictions and/or accommodation needs.
  • Conduct intake of leave requests, review of all incoming mail, send required notices, forms, and letters, and determine leave eligibility.
  • Review, update, and maintain the documentation of all leave policies and processes to remain compliant with federal, state, and city laws.
  • Ensure the integrity of data and offer process improvement recommendations.
Prepare and submit annual OSHA and DOL reporting and assist with the Workers' Compensation reporting.

  • Generate and present metric reports regularly. Analyze disability leave and Workers' Compensation data and trends.
  • Track leave time and work with employees and managers to ensure proper timekeeping.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent. Minimum of 46 years work experience or an advanced degree.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of federal and state leaverelated regulations, including FMLA, ADAAA (including the interactive process), and HIPAA.
  • General understanding of employee benefits related to leaves of absence, including short/long term disability, Workers' Compensation, COBRA, state disability pay, etc.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain high confidentiality and professionalism with a client focus.
  • Strong multitasking, prioritization, and organization skills.
  • Attention to detail, research, critical thinking, analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Selfstarter, a fast learner who can work independently under limited supervision.
  • Work well in an interactive team environment.
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar enterprise HRIS, Microsoft Office, and relational databases.

  • Knowledge of benefits design, policies and programs.
