    Description

    Senior Database Developer/Engineer

    This open position is in search of a talented individual to provide advanced Clinical data solutions for Healthcare informatics initiatives, located in the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area. We are keen on bringing aboard a driven professional with exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to join our team.

    • Design, develop, and optimize large, complex DB schemas, SQL scripts, and objects to align with application functionality and performance needs.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders across various teams including data, design, product, and executive groups, offering expertise on data-related technical matters.
    • Work closely with application developers and business units at all levels to address data-related challenges and contribute to the successful design and delivery of data-driven solutions.
    • Establish efficient processes and procedures for product/project development and releases that streamline high-quality and swift deployment.
    • Offer solutions to enhance data integrity within enterprise systems.
    • Engage in code reviews to ensure code quality and effectiveness.
    • Interface with developers to enhance applications and implement best practices.
    • Produce documentation and collaborative resources using internal platforms.

    Requirements:

    • Deep expertise in Database Architecture handling substantial volumes of data, dealing with over 500 million new data records daily.
    • Strong analytical and organizational competencies for analyzing existing databases and client requirements to devise impactful data solutions.
    • Proven proficiency in performance tuning encompassing query and server optimization through SQL tools and/or third-party solutions.
    • Sound knowledge and hands-on experience in data modeling, database design, performance optimization, SQL, and stored procedures.
    • Skilled in interpreting complex business requirements, analyzing, designing, and implementing solutions.
    • Hands-on experience in SQL Server 2016 or newer using SSIS and SSRS.
    • Capability in troubleshooting and resolving data-related issues.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Expertise in performance tuning, particularly in optimizing complex queries, procedures, and indexing strategies.

    Nice to have:

    • Experience monitoring and optimizing complex ETL jobs using metadata/variables/parameters.
    • Performance tuning background with third-party tools.
    • Track record in audit/compliance within regulated environments.
    • Proficiency with tools like Jira & Confluence in the development lifecycle.
    • Experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau, SSRS, Power BI, etc.
    • Familiarity with Continual Improvement processes.
    • Knowledge of Git.

    Experience

    • More than 8 years of experience in relational database and SQL.
    • The ideal candidate should showcase creativity, curiosity, initiative, and self-management skills.
    • Extensive experience (over 4 years) in coding complex SQL queries and stored procedures, with the ability to articulate performance tuning details of the database.
    • Thorough understanding of database development methodologies like Source Control, Continual Improvement, Release Management, Agile, and Scrum.
    • Previous exposure to Continuous Integration Tools (Jenkins, TeamCity, Bamboo) and Test-Driven Development (TDD) would be advantageous.
    • Bonus points for familiarity with Red Gate Tools (SQL Source Control, SQL Compare, SQL Data Compare, DLM).
    • Having knowledge in the healthcare domain is a significant advantage.

    Education

    - Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering or related technical field.

    - Master's degree is preferred.
