Position Summary


The Bartender will prepare and serve alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages to patrons, oversee the stock of liquor and bar supplies, and collect money for drinks served.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Interact with guests in a friendly and efficient manner; greeting customers as they are seated at the bar; ensure guests' complete satisfaction by exceeding their expectations
  • this includes ensuring the table is clean and that utensils, napkins, and other needs have been provided.
  • Encouraged to learn guests' names and favorite drinks; develop rapport.
  • Receives orders from patrons and waitstaff.
  • Ensures that customers are of legal drinking age by checking photo IDs for patrons they are serving directly.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of the restaurant's food and beverage preparation and menu, with the ability to answer customer questions.
  • Understand and follow the food allergy procedure and special orders/restrictions.
  • Accurately record and account for all items ordered, process payments, and balance all sales/receipts in compliance with restaurant policies and procedures.
  • Verifies that the food is correct based upon what the customer ordered and to customers' satisfaction, if incorrect or unsatisfied notify the manager on duty.
  • Work as a team with all personnel to maintain an effective atmosphere and an efficient food and beverage service.
  • Keep bar areas always cleaned and stocked to the company's standards, including closing cleaning checklist.
  • Mix, garnish, and serve alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks for patrons of the bar and dining room following standard recipes._ _
  • Arrange bottles and glasses to maintain an attractive display.
  • Wash and sterilize stemware, bar utensils, and glasses.
  • Uses proper judgment and, when necessary, refuses service to patrons who are intoxicated or disruptive.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Be of legal age to serve alcohol.
  • Report to work in a neat and clean uniform; maintain wellgroomed hair and personal hygiene as established by company policy.
  • Possess stateapplicable health and/or alcohol compliance card.
  • Basic mathematical skills: ability to make change.
  • Basic reading and writing skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to operate pointofsale systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Wellorganized with the ability to take and place food and beverage orders accurately.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits, and familiarity with standard drink recipes and preparation.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Multitask oriented.
  • Comply and execute all safety and sanitation guidelines and procedures.
  • Must be able to suggestively sell food, dessert, and beverage items.
  • Encourage customers to join the Shakou rewards program if they are not currently signed up or remind customers who have the rewards program what benefits are available.
  • Ability to remain calm when dealing with unruly and argumentative patrons.
  • Promote a positive and collaborative employee culture designed to support customer needs.

Education and Experience:


  • No previous bartender experience is necessary but preferred.
  • Depending on experience, could be required to shadow another bartender as training.
  • Must pass a written test regarding Shakou's menu.
