SUMMARY
The Library Associate is part of the larger Learning Services team, reporting to the Assistant Head of School for Student Experience.
In this capacity, they primarily focus on working directly with students, supporting their skills as independent learners, tutoring and assisting with academic projects and assignments, and managing the culture of the library and library commons area (as well as the 2nd floor when necessary).
This position supports the school's curriculum by promoting information literacy and providing a library setting conducive to active and participatory learning and resource-based instructional practices.
Daily duties include supervising students, circulation of materials, shelving, helping users locate resources, and completing library-related clerical tasks such as printing/copying.
Community & Student Responsibilities
- Support and supervise students in their various uses of the library
- Maintain community norms in the library
- Sit with students and help with homework, projects, and other learning activities.
- Serve as Advisor for students 1012th grades
- Coordinate librarycentered activities and clubs
- Assist with library programs and displays
- Supervise and attend overnight student events
- Take part in community and student programs outside the library
- Attend/participate in Open House, graduation, and other special events, which may take place in the evenings and on weekends
Administrative Responsibilities
- Research, develop, communicate, and execute all policies and procedures related to the library, including but not limited to materials selection, circulation, reconsideration of materials, copyright, privacy, acceptable use, and managing and maintaining the library space
- Manage, update, and expand the library's collection
- Take and record attendance, prepare and file reports and letters as required
- Support student and faculty research needs
- Perform circulation desk procedures, such as checking in and out materials, registering patrons, maintaining patron records, overdue notices, etc.
- Process, withdraw, repair, or recondition library materials
- Attend relevant meetings such as faculty and division programs and inservice training
- Perform other administrative or educational duties as assigned
Qualifications:
COMPETENCIES, QUALIFICATIONS, and SKILLS
- An associate degree or bachelor's degree in library science preferred
- Excellent student programming and student relationship skills
- Ability to be firm when necessary, maintaining close supervision of students during unstructured time
- Ability and eagerness to work with and manage young adults in a library or educational setting
- Ability to work with a wide range of people: students, faculty, staff, parents, vendors, and donors
- Excellent customer service skills
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Possess strong computer skills including working knowledge of MS
Office Suite:
Excel, Word, Publisher
- Possess organizational and interpersonal skills working within a team environment
- Strong organization and project management skills
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Must be proficient in English to carry out duties as assigned
