SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for assuring a safe and secure environment within the assigned Transit Centers. This allows the Citrus Connection transit system to be reliable and efficient. This is achieved through bus operator education and security training.

This position primarily supports the basic service functions of the Operations Department and secondarily may assist the Risk Department.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  • Monitor on-time performance
  • Address and diffuse employee and/or passenger disputes
  • Assists in reporting of accidents/incidents at the Transit Center
  • Responsible for coordinating activities
  • Communicates route changes, detours and schedule changes to operator terminal
  • Responsible for providing courteous customer service with all persons encountered
  • Responsible for a professional appearance at all times while wearing agency issued uniform
  • Assist Operations as necessary
  • Responsible for assisting impaired passengers.
  • Responsible for replenishment of route maps at the Transit Center
  • Adhere to Terminal Post Orders
  • Responsible for maintaining agency issued equipment (i.e. radio, body camera etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or G.E.D required. One (1) year of related field experience as a bus operator, preferably in a public transportation setting.

An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be directly related to the specific requirements may be substituted.

Must complete accredited training for a Security "D" License. Bi-lingual Spanish desirable but not required.


OTHER CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:

Must have valid CDL Class "B" license with (P) Passenger Endorsement and Airbrakes.

Prefer Security "D" License.


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations

Ability to operate assigned equipment in a safe manner.

Ability to remain professional, polite and courteous under stressful situations.

Knowledge of the geography of the county and bus routes.

Knowledge of general security practices.

Skill in safely operating a bus or other vehicle in a variety of weather and traffic conditions:
Ability to work under pressure and multi-task.

Strong written, verbal communication skills

Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

Skilled in operating a personal computer

Basic skills in Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines

Ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, various County and City employees, customers, and the public.

Uses sound, independent judgment in daily work activities and exercises discretion; has strong ethical standards.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of a Terminal Security Officer.

This position is primarily outdoors and is exposed to the daily local climate and weather conditions. Being visible at the terminal and attentive requires extensive standing and walking.

This position also requires the ability to direct traffic and safely navigate around mass transit vehicles as well as other pedestrian and vehicular traffic within the terminal.

On occasion the ability to quickly ascend a transit vehicle to quell a disturbance or assist in an emergency may occur.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

It may include the need to lift up to 25 lbs. infrequently.
