What We Do:

The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is looking for motivated, insightful architects who are passionate about solving challenging software engineering problems using software architecture principles, practices, and tools.

The SEIs Architecture Analysis, Design, and Automation (ADAA) team is an applied research and development team thatcreates innovative solutions, theories, practices, and tools to improve the development and quality of software-intensive systemsapplies our work in government and industry settings to solve challenges in developing and evolving critical softwarehelps organizations improve their software engineering and software architecture capabilitiesThe software architecture principles and practices developed by our team over the decades are used today by organizations across the globe and in many university curricula.

At the SEI, you can make an impact on the state of the art of software engineering and work with some of the most talented people in the field.

What youll do:
Lead or work on teams to advise customers in the use of architecture practices to identify and solve large-scale development problemsAnalyze customer needs throughout the development lifecycle and recommending courses of actionWork with collaborators and customers to apply SEI research outcomes to real world systemsAnalyze customer problems, determine needs, and recommend course of actionContribute to the development and improvement of architecture practices and software engineering practicesUse customer experiences to inform and advance software engineering practices, with a focus on architecture design and analysisContribute to the technical community through publications and presentationsDevelop proposals and work plans

Qualifications:
BS in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related, with 8 years of experience, or MS with 8 years of experience, or PhD with 2 years of experiencePractical experience architecting software systems and/or experience in software architecture design and analysis researchStrong presentation skills for small and large audiences in government and industry settingsExperience architecting, developing, and evolving modern software systemsExperience leveraging architecture concepts to improve activities across the development lifecycle (including requirements, design, integration, testing, and deployment activities)Experience applying architecture practices to production systems, particularly to address sustainment and modernization problemsAbility to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies, platforms, and environments

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to use software architecture and design tools and languages to develop and evolve production softwareAbility to use common object-oriented programming languages and development tools in a team environmentAbility to use agile practices and DevOps automation in the development and evolution of production softwareArchitecting or designing systems with large-scale data challenges, such as AI/ML and big data systemsAbility to work effectively in small and large teamsKnowledge of SEI architecture work such as the ATAM, QAW, and documentation with the Views and Beyond Approach

Other RequirementsYou will be subject to a background investigation and must be able to obtain and/or maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.

Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.
