    Software Architect - Arlington, United States - Tecolote Research

    Description


    Overview The Software Architect will be joining the development team that supports complex enterprise software systems for the federal government.

    You will be responsible for enabling conversion of functional requirements into technical requirements that allow the development team to build new capabilities and improve existing functionality.

    The ideal candidate has strong technical leadership skills and the ability to architect complex applications.

    We are looking for a resourceful, innovative thinker who can understand our business objectives and constraints, identify areas of improvement, and provide creative solutions.

    This position will be filled to work hybrid (at least 2 days/week onsite) in Arlington, VA or Chantilly, VA.

    Responsibilities


    Coordinate and drive the end-to-end architecture of large-scale enterprise applications and a range of smaller products by translating operational needs and data security requirements into long-term architecture solutionsProvide architectural and big picture oversight for development of new or enhanced componentsDevelop an advanced understanding of complex business requirements and how both our current technology can be leveraged and proposed future technology selected to meet those needsCraft database architectural strategies at the modeling, design, and implementation stages of the development processLead technical discussions around Development, Data, Security, Scalability, etc.

    concepts and ensure best practices are implementedManage data structures at the design phase of both SQL and non-SQL database managementAssist in code review process and plan platform optimization efforts with development and product team membersProvide feedback to customer to influence designs based on software considerationsProvide technical and organizational leadership to research, analyze and provide recommended technology solutions to meet customer challenges and to promote the delivery of quality servicesEvaluate hardware and software platforms, as well as integration touch points with external systemsEvaluate system alternatives, assess risks and costs, and provide recommendations for system performance verificationDevelop and maintain technical documentation for system databases, and ensure quality control of all developed and modified data solutionsSome travel will be required

    Skills Required

    What youll need to have:


    A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience working in the development and design of IT systems, including providing architectural guidance to developers/teams as an Architect or Lead Developer/EngineerStrong communication skills, both written and verbal.

    Ability to effectively develop technical diagrams to communicate and document complex technical processes or models.

    Ability to estimate software timelines and present them to internal leadership and customersExpertise with cloud technologies and big data conceptsDemonstrated ability to create formal design processes using industry best practices in data modernization and securityStrong application design skills combined with strong data and security architecture skillsProficiency in Agile/SCRUM methodologies and experience with breaking down larger scope items into work packagesExperience in problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, including creating and troubleshooting APIs and complex data structures/systemsOutstanding listening skills, ability to connect with people in diverse rolesAbility to mentor junior staff and work collaboratively with stakeholders and technical leadershipU.S.

    Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Security Clearance requiredBachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline

    What would be nice for you to have:

    Experience with our current technologies:
    jQuery, Angu ar, Rest API, Web Services, SQL, Bootstrap, CA, ASP.NET, WebformsExperience creating and maintaining software requirements and working with major relational databases (SQL Server, etc.)

    Experience with common vulnerability scanning and reporting tools (e.g.

    Burp Scanner, Fortify)Experience with Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelinesStrong working knowledge and experience in deploying, configuring, and managing applications and services on AWS or similarKubernetes experienceAbility to analyze, design, and optimize business processesNot required but would be beneficial:

    Any experience with data analysis, DoD weapon system acquisition, or cost estimating

    Education

    A bachelors degree in computer science (or other relevant concentration) required. An additional three years of directly relevant software development experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
