General Information:


The Better Conversations Facilitation Fellow will join a cohort of students leading the Madison Center for Civic Engagement's groundbreaking new campus-wide dialogue and deliberation program for all new first year and transfer students.

Fellows will be responsible for facilitating/moderating deliberative dialogues for students throughout the fall semester and the beginning of the spring semester.

In addition, Fellows will learn the skills of facilitation, participate in weekly debrief sessions and ongoing program assessments, and support the Center's other deliberation and dialogue programs.

This is an opportunity for students interested in community problem solving, conflict mediation, dialogue, and deliberation and facilitation to develop a robust skillset in these areas while providing meaningful opportunities to peers.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Participate in ongoing facilitation training offered through the Madison Center for Civic Engagement and its partners.
  • Facilitate/moderate 24 deliberative forums per week for 1112 weeks during the fall semester and for 23 weeks in the spring semester.
  • Provide ongoing assessments on student deliberation outcomes.
  • Assist Madison Center staff in refining deliberation materials and programming in this area.
  • Provide administrative support for the deliberative forums during fall semester.
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:


  • Junior, senior, or graduate student standing with a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Commitment to nonpartisanship while representing the Madison Center

Conditions of Employment:


Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).

Students must have a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA.
