Job Summary


This position is responsible for the readiness of the operational training simulator software ensuring fidelity with the operating plant, consistent with NRC requirements to maintain simulator certification.


Job Description:


  • Exhibits journey level proficiency plus advanced knowledge of simulator software design.
  • Responsible for the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of simulator modeling software. Perform project planning and scheduling for integration of advanced simulation models.
  • Develop and modify existing simulator software to reflect changes in plant design, system configuration, and related computer systems.
  • Participate in the review, evaluation, and recommendation of system simulation methodologies. Review plant procedures, requests for changes, and plant modifications to determine impact on the simulator software models and fidelity and verify that new and existing software performs as designed and maintain simulator fidelity per Reg. Guide 1.149, ANSI/ANS 3.5, and 10CFR Parts 50 and 5
  • Prepare competitive bid specifications, solicit proposals, evaluate bids, and recommend contractors to perform simulator hardware and software modifications.
  • Act as project engineer for contracted work. Maintain and update software documentation (flow charts, program listings, CAD drawings, etc.) to reflect the current status of system software.
  • Supervise and coordinate maintenance, operating personnel, and vendor during special system testing and provide technical assistance as required.
  • Conduct engineering analyses to determine the technical feasibility and budget impact on proposed simulator system modifications.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR NUCLEAR SIMULATOR DEVELOPER LEAD:

Education requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or SRO certification with computer science related experience.

Work Experience requirements:

  • Has typically acquired six years of related experience in computer science with at least two years in the nuclear industry.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Computer programming languages: Fortran, C, and C++. Familiarity with GSE SimExec or other power plant simulation software preferred.
  • Specific knowledge of nuclear standards and nuclear policies, practices, and procedures relating to plant operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • May perform walk downs in plant environment, which may include exposure to heat, cold, noise, and radiation.
  • Physical demand level is Sedentary

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR NUCLEAR SIMULATOR DEVELOPER PRINC:

Education requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or SRO certification with computer science related experience.

Work Experience requirements:

  • Has typically acquired eight years of related experience in computer science with at least five years in the nuclear industry.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Computer programming languages: Fortran, C, and C++. Familiarity with GSE SimExec or other power plant simulation software preferred.
  • Specific knowledge of nuclear standards and nuclear policies, practices, and procedures relating to plant operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Salary Range posted from minimum - mid-point:
Nuclear Simulator Developer Lead (SG 08) - nuclear Simulator Developer Principal (SG 09): $94,225 - $143,853.00

Must establish & maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe driving distance to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant.
