Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the lead technician and/or Histology Supervisor, prepares tissue samples for microscopic examination by a pathologist. The technician comprehends and adheres to standard operating procedures.
Upon completion of successful training within first 12 months, capable of:

  • Loading and unloading of processors
  • Embedding of routine tissue samples
  • Maintenance of tissue processors
  • Retrieving and filing of blocks and slides
  • Transportation of specimens and paperwork
  • Printing and or completing Histoweb worksheets
  • Quality Control documentation
  • Recognizes and reports problems and or discrepancies
  • Following safety procedures
  • Operates printers, stainer or coverslippers
  • Inventory / supply storage and management
  • Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:


Education:


  • High school diploma with successful completion of high school courses in biology, chemistry and math.

Work Experience:


  • No experience required. Three months in a laboratory environment, surgical pathology, or related education/lab exposure preferred.
