    PURPOSE

    This role involves maintaining cleanliness, safety, functionality, and security in assigned areas or buildings following district standards. The custodian plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations that do not disrupt the educational environment. The working hours for this position are Monday to Friday, varying depending on the assigned building, with a 30-minute lunch break.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Conduct routine custodial tasks in designated areas.
    • Represent the school district positively in the presence of the public, guests, or visitors.
    • Follow instructions from the head custodian/supervisor.
    • Provide support for educational and extracurricular events.
    • Manage custodial supplies and equipment inventory.
    • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of building spaces and equipment.
    • Secure the building by opening and closing as required.
    • Available for emergency cleaning or maintenance outside regular hours.
    • Perform other duties to uphold the mission of Columbia Public School District.
    DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS

    REPORTING STRUCTURE

    • Reports To: Director of Custodial Services, Building administrator(s), Head and/or Lead Custodian
    • Supervises: None
    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum:
    - Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
    - Knowledge of safe equipment and supplies use.
    - Familiarity with building cleaning and maintenance.
    - Ability to maintain positive relationships.

    Preferred: High School diploma.

    The ideal candidate displays professionalism, friendliness, and works effectively in a dynamic environment.

    ADA REQUIREMENTS

    • Language: Proficient in English reading, writing, and interpretation of documents and reports.
    • Computation: Ability to perform basic math operations with American units.
    • Reasoning: Capacity to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
    • Technology: Basic tech skills including data entry.
    • Other Skills: Relationship building, personal hygiene, and customer service orientation.
    • Physical Demands: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and perform physical tasks.
    • Attendance: Consistent and punctual attendance.
    • Environment: Work may involve indoor and outdoor settings, mechanical equipment, and moderate noise levels.
