Since its inception in 1996, the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering has brought innovative, real-world engineering education to Central Virginia.

Comprised of five different departments plus the Dean's office, the College of Engineering enrolls more than 1,700 undergraduate and 250 graduate students in several degree programs supported by approximately 600 full-time, part-time, and student employees.

Position Responsibilities:

Required Qualifications:


  • Ph.
D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or a closely related field

  • Experience in Semiconductor materials growth, Device Fabrication and Characterization
  • Experience in surface coating/passivation
  • Experience in materials Characterization (xray diffraction, microscopy, and luminescence)
  • Ability to mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and ensure the highest levels of laboratory safety
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and short turnaround times

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Familiarity with modern epitaxial growth techniques, such as molecular beam epitaxy, metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy, and/or atomic layer deposition.
  • Familiarity with infrared materials and detector fabrication techniques.
