    JOB SUMMARY:

    **Shared services with cooperating districts as to be directed by our Director of Special Services

    A school psychologist has assigned responsibilities for evaluation, consultation and other services to Grand Blanc Community School students in preschool through post-high school levels and demonstrates abilities to work effectively with students, parents, staff and administrators.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    A school psychologist functions in the following roles:
    1. Provides psychological evaluation for pupils referred as candidates for Special Education programs and provide reports to the appropriate education authority.
    2. Administers tests which may include intelligence, achievement, personality, adaptive behavior and perceptual-motor tests.
    3. Interprets the psychological and other diagnostic data for professionals, parents, pupils and appropriate others.
    4. Collaborates in program planning and evaluation services for decision making purposes.
    5. Consults, counsels and collaborates with pupils, parents, school personnel and appropriate outside personnel regarding mental health, behavioral and education concerns utilizing psychological principals.
    6. Collaborates/participates in planning educational intervention, curriculum, behavioral management and teaching strategies to be utilized within general education settings.
    7. Performs systematic direct observations of pupils.
    Competencies of the school psychologist include:
    1. Knowledge of the organization and administration of local and state agencies and their services for pupils.
    2. Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and other legal aspects of the role of the school psychologist.
    3. Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitations Act.
    4. Skills in the ability to consult, counsel and collaborate with pupils, parents, school personnel and appropriate outside personnel regarding mental health, behavior and education concerns utilizing psychology principals.
    5. An understanding of the rationale of testing, measurement and skills in the administration of tests, including those which measure intelligence, achievement, personality, adaptive behavior and perceptual-motor skills.
    6. Skills in integrating data obtained from tests and from other sources of information and ability to communicate these findings to other professionals, parents and pupils in a meaningful way.
    7. Skills in psychological report writing and other written communication.
    8. The acquisition and mastery of broad understanding of learning and learning impairments.
    9. Knowledge of human growth and development in pupils with or without handicaps.
    10. A comprehensive understanding of personality development and the assessment of human behavior.
    11. Knowledge of how cultural and ethnic differences influence behavior and affect evaluation.
    12. Knowledge of the ethical standards of the profession of school psychology.
    13. Knowledge of appropriate classroom accommodations, learning styles and curriculum modifications
    14. Possess strong organizational skills/ ability to coordinate services.
    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
    Full or standard certification through the Department of Education in Compliance with Michigan Special Education Regulations.
