    Job Purpose and Focus
    To assess students' intellectual and mental functional levels; provide information for program development and student placement; develop behavior plans; and provide information on child development and/or issues on specific students to instructional personnel

    Essential Qualifications and Requirements
    • Master's Degree
    • Extensive understanding of special education administrative rules and laws
    • Job-related experience
    • Ability to plan and coordinate effectively with other professionals
    • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions
    • Ability to communicate effectively
    • Demonstrated initiative and understanding in working with students, staff, and parents/guardians
    • Ability to use assessment instruments and interpret results
    • Willingness to participate in ongoing training
    • Ability to function within board policies and procedures with a minimum of supervision
    • Ability to exercise tact and discretion in relationships with students, faculty, and the general public
    • Ability to develop and maintain record keeping systems and procedures
    Essential Functions and Representative Duties
    • Assess students' functional capabilities and home and/or classroom environment for the purpose of determining student's functional level and developing recommendations and/or placement
    • Consult with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services and/or making recommendations
    • Counsel students, parents, and guardians for the purpose of enhancing student success in school
    • Facilitate communication between students and/or parents with teachers and/or other personnel for the purpose of developing plans and/or providing information regarding students functional goals
    • Intervene in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills
    • Manage assigned special grants and/or projects for the purpose of ensuring that specifications (e.g. budget, reports, goals, etc.) are achieved
    • Participate in various meetings (e.g. parent conferences, inservice training, site meetings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information and/or meeting credential requirements
    • Prepare documentation (e.g. evaluations, observations, progress, contacts with parents, teachers and outside professionals, etc. for the purpose of providing written support, developing recommendations, and/or conveying information
    • Present information on various topics related to area of professional expertise in psychology for the purpose of communicating information and gaining feedback on treatment issues
    • Research resources and methods (i.e. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining appropriate approach for addressing students' specific needs
    • Assist other personnel to support them in working with students
    • Understand the CIMS process
    • Work with building staff in developing Positive Behavior Support systems
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    Terms of Employment
    Wages and benefits as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement with The Board of Education.

    Work Environment
    Work is normally performed in a typical school building and/or office environment. There is limited exposure to physical risk. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment
    without direct supervision. Must be able to work toward district goals.

    Intent and Function of Position Descriptions
