Job Summary:


The Certified Home Health/Hospice Aide (CHHA) is a paraprofessional member of the home care/hospice team who works under the supervision of a registered nurse or therapist and performs and assists patient with various personal care services as necessary to meet the patient's personal needs and to promote comfort.


Responsibilities:


  • The CHHA is responsible for observing patients, reporting these observations, and documenting observations and care performed.
  • The CHHA will be assigned in a manner that promotes quality, continuity and safety of a patient's care.
  • The CHHA will not function in any manner viewed as the practice of nursing according to the state's Nurse Practice Act.
  • Specifically, the CHHA will not administer medications, take physician's orders or perform procedures requiring the training, knowledge and skill of a nurse, such as sterile techniques.

  • Travel

  • Position may require local travel between various organization locations.
  • 16 hours of class room must be completed prior to a mandatory 16 hours of practical training.
  • Hospice: Completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training.
  • Provides a calm manner when in a patient's home.
  • Understands hospice philosophy, comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill and secure with issues of death/dying.
  • Empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail and the impaired.

Education:


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) certification in the State of California, in good standing.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Registration on the Home Care Aide Registry through the Department of Social Services, Home Care Services Bureau, in good standing.
  • Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order.
