Description

Under general supervision, perform complex laboratory procedures, undertake research projects in collaboration with academic supervisor, and make independent contributions to investigations.

Be familiar with and organize a wide variety of molecular biology/cell biology/biochemistry laboratory techniques including but not limited to cloning, protein expression and purification, mini and maxi preps of plasmids, cell culture transfections and infections, protein and nucleic acid quantification, size exclusion chromatography, and PCR.

Prepare written protocols and reports on data and laboratory methods. Consult with academic supervisors in developing plans and approaches to research problems. Research, read, and abstract articles related to research projects.

In addition to the responsibilities supporting the conduct of research, responsible for managing many of the operating components of the laboratory, including but not limited to:

maintenance of laboratory equipment, record keeping, ordering supplies, inventory management of chemicals, handling of hazardous chemicals, ensuring safe facilities, safe conduct of procedures, proper disposal of hazardous chemicals, implementation of current state, federal, OSHA, EHS, and other pertinent regulations.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in a laboratory setting. (required)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow through on assignments. (required)
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a research team, collaborating with colleagues. (required)
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports relating to research projects, project results, and research methodologies. (required)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage research projects with mínimal supervision. (required)
  • Knowledge of current state, federal, OSHA, EHS, and other safety regulations. (required)
  • Demonstrated ability to revise research protocols in response to changing environments and results. (required)
  • Ability to direct, train, and supervise research students. (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to order, handle, and manage laboratory supplies, chemicals, hazardous chemicals. (preferred)
  • Ability to oversee laboratory safety matters, including equipment, supplies, electrical, chemicals, laboratory procedures, and hazardous chemical disposal. (preferred)
  • Ability to develop and document research and laboratory policies and procedures. (preferred)
