JFK Memorial Hospital has provided medical care to residents in the Coachella Valley since 1966. A group of physicians, including Dr. Reynaldo Carreon, founded the hospital and today one of JFK's cross streets is named in his honor.


Originally called Indio Community Hospital, JFK has grown to a 145-bed acute-care hospital that is part of Tenet Healthcare California.

The ED Clinical Nurse Manager reports directly to the Director of the Emergency Department and has 24 hour responsibility for assisting the Director in the day to day coordination of and quality of clinical nursing care of patients in the Emergency Department.

The ED Clinical Manager assists the ED Director by managing human resources at the unit level in a cost-effective manner.

The Clinical Manager assists the ED Director by promptly and fully investigates and resolves complaints of patients, visitors, staff, and physicians, advising management I administration appropriately.

The Clinical Manager accepts responsibility for helping employees understand difficult administrative decisions. The Clinical Manager has access to all Patient Health Information for treatment.

The ED Clinical Manager also oversees the responsibilities of the Prehospital Liaison Nurse (PLN) and fulfills the role as defined in the Base Hospital contract between JFK Memorial Hospital and Riverside County Emergency Medical Services Agency (REMSA).


Nurse Manager Job Duties:


  • Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
  • Maintains nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Maintains nursing operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Assures quality of care by developing and interpreting hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care; enforcing adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements and to other governing agency regulations; measuring health outcomes against standards; making or recommending adjustments.
  • Maintains nursing staff by assisting the ED Director with recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training nurses and auxiliary staff.
  • Maintains nursing staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
  • Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching and counseling patient, friends, and family and reinforcing their understanding of disease, medications, and selfcare skills.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by designing and implementing procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from other health care professionals.
  • Protects patients and employees by assisting in the development and interpretation of infectioncontrol policies and protocols; enforcing medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations and is responsible for assisting the Director of the ED with investigating and closing out of ESRM's.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing.
  • Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • The ED Clinical Manager is responsible for overseeing education, compliance, and quality for JFK's base station hospital program along with the STEMI and Stroke programs. The ED Clinical Manager/PLN will provide educational opportunities for MICNs, prehospital personnel as well as the Cath Lab and ICU personnel. Additionally, the ED Clinical Manager /PLN will have oversight of policies and procedures involving patients arriving by EMS and will educate hospital staff and physicians regarding REMSA policy changes and updates.
  • The ED Clinical Manager/PLN is responsible for managing day to day performance issues with prehospital personnel and emergency room staff.
  • The ED Clinical Manager /PLN will also perform other duties as assigned by the department director and act as a competent clinical resource for staff.
  • In the event that the Director of the Emergency Department is unavailable / on a leave of absence, the ED Clinical Manager/ PLN will assume the roles and responsibilities of the Director.
