    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    Under the general supervision of the Administrative Nurse III, the Senior LVN Supervisor provides nursing support and leadership in the Department of Urology clinic(s)


    Major duties include:

    Develop work assignment and work coverage plans, facilitate patient flow, coordinate day to day physician clinic and supervise floor schedule; assist with maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment (including identifying equipment requiring service or repair), provide patient care in an outpatient setting, assist with urologic procedures such as cystoscopies and bladder installations, start I.V.s, perform venipuncture, administer medications and manage patient flow.

    The incumbent spends a significant portion of time training staff and contributing to the development and implementation of nursing educational programs for the clinic staff.

    Supervisory responsibilities include work assignment, managing time off requests and work coverage, coordinating training, work review, and assisting with identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and customer service, as well as assisting with development and implementation of action plans for improvement.

    Required:

    • CA LVN License with IV certification
    • Current and valid BLS/CPR certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Minimum of 3 years of LVN experience
    • Ability to take vital signs, administer medications and obtain drug refills as needed.
    • Ability to recognize abnormal laboratory values and report to the physician.
    • Knowledge of symptomatology of common and or life threatening medical problems.
    • Interpersonal skills in maintaining a cooperative working environment with the physicians, staff, and all health providers.
    • Performs phlebotomy, CPR, injections, and other skills within scope of practice.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills, Windows computer function, computer navigation, and ability to use computerized patient care systems.
    • Knowledge of all safety requirements when handling biohazardous specimens or contaminated instruments.
    • Verbal skills to effectively convey sensitive information in a courteous manner in person or on the telephone.
    • Ability to lead a team with effective communication, collaboration and maintaining high-quality standards.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff members, faculty, patients, nursing staff and others.
    • Team building and leadership skills, preferably to include prior supervisory experience.

    Highly desired:

    • Knowledge of all instruments and supplies to perform physical examinations and/or procedures
