Responsible for strengthening teacher practice and thus positively impacting student learning.

Main functions include but are not limited to assisting teachers with developing content knowledge and pedagogical skills in planning/preparation, delivery of effective standards-based instruction, establishing a positive classroom environment and culture for learning, analyzing data and action planning, and school/community communications.


Accountability:
Reports to the Assistant Superintendent/Superintendent


Qualifications:


Education/Certification

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; Master's degree preferred
  • Holds a State of Illinois Professional Educator's License in teaching or is enrolled in a program in Educational Administration
  • Successful experience teaching at the elementary/middle level
  • English as Second Language endorsement preferred
  • Special Education endorsement preferred
  • Gifted and Talented endorsement preferred
  • Technology endorsement preferred/extensive instructional technology training

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:


  • Thorough knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Thorough knowledge of teaching effectiveness
  • Extensive content knowledge
  • Ability to develop school and district professional development
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:


  • Minimum of (3) three years of successful experience as a classroom teacher

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Instruction

  • Work collaboratively with team members to develop, update, and implement curriculum and assessment
  • Evaluate instructional program with teachers, including learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques
  • Provide and/or coordinate school and districtwide ongoing training based on research and data
  • Use research and district data to help teachers improve the content, sequence, and results of the teaching and learning process
  • Use research and data to make recommendations for the purchase/use of instructional materials
  • Observe teachers and provide nonevaluative feedback
  • Model instructional practices in a variety of settings and provide followup coaching to ensure effective implementation
  • Provide input regarding appropriate intervention/remediation strategies for students

Professional Growth and Development

  • Attend conferences and workshops based on school/district priorities
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior; serve as a role model for all campus staff
  • Conduct or participate in workshops, committees, and conferences designed to promote the intellectual, social, and physical welfare of students

Communication

  • Communicate clearly orally and in writing; body language should communicate positive messages
  • Keep teaching staff informed of professional development opportunities and any curriculum change.
  • Serve as the liaison between teachers and administration
  • Engage in professionally honest conversations with teachers about curriculum, instruction, and data

Other

  • Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
  • Other duties as assigned
