Position Summary:


The Attendance and Enrollment Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring effective attendance and enrollment systems are designed and implemented across the school organization.

This position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to learn quickly, strong data analysis skills, and excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, parents, and staff.

The Attendance and Enrollment Specialist will work closely with the management team and other school staff members to support effective student attendance and enrollment procedures, contributing to the overall success of the school.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Create procedures that support accurate records of student attendance.
  • Ensure accurate daily attendance for each student by monitoring implementation of attendance procedures.
  • Develop a comprehensive attendance system with guidance and support from other school staff members.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate attendance records for all students, using the designated attendance systems.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to identify and address attendancerelated concerns and ensure compliance with attendance policies.
  • Generate attendance reports and provide regular updates to school administrators, highlighting trends or issues that require attention.
  • Design and implement strategies to promote regular attendance and address chronic absenteeism, working closely with students and families to identify and resolve underlying causes.
  • Ensure that the school follows attendance and truancy policies per OSSE and the DC Public Charter School Board.
  • Prepare attendance letters, call parents, and attend attendancerelated meetings as needed.
  • Create and implement attendance incentive programs.
  • Work with the enrollment team to understand and manage the enrollment process to ensure the school meets its enrollment target.
  • Support with student recruitment efforts, including providing school tours, representing IDEA at EdFest, leading information sessions, and participating in open houses, among other activities.
  • Regularly review and update enrollment databases, including Powerschool, My School DC Staff Portal, and our internal enrollment workbook.
  • Collect and ensure accuracy of school registration documents to ensure compliance with DC enrollment policies.
  • Manage enrollment by tracking and responding to enrollment inquiries.
  • Identify barriers to enrollment and work with families and school staff members to eliminate barriers (e.g. by conducting a home visit to help a family complete the enrollment process).
  • Create and maintain student enrollment files, ensuring 100% accuracy of residency files and student information to support a successful annual child count/enrollment audit.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for attendancerelated inquiries from parents, students, and staff, providing prompt and accurate information.
  • Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, and teachers to support student success by identifying and addressing attendance issues that may impact academic progress.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding attendance concerns, developing strategies for improved attendance and engagement.
  • Participate in meetings and professional development sessions to stay updated on attendance policies, enrollment procedures, and relevant state and district guidelines.
  • Serve as the content expert on attendance policies, procedures, and strategies and provide training to other school staff members to support effective attendance systems.
  • Serve as the lead for the Attendance Team, which includes recruiting team members, preparing agendas, facilitating meetings, and ensuring that the team is effective in both process and outcomes.
