Job Overview - Accounting Principal


The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is seeking an experienced accounting professional to serve in the position of accounting principal.

CMAP is a mission-driven agency serving the 284 municipalities and 7 counties of northeastern Illinois as the region's comprehensive planning organization.

The agency has undergone an exciting chapter of growth and currently has an annual operating budget of over $43 million and approximately 125 total staff.

Agency support includes a portfolio of federal, state and philanthropic funding.

  • Oversight of the agency's diversified portfolio of federal, state, and philanthropic funding; including support from the U.S. Department of Transportation, Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, MacArthur Foundation, Chicago Community Trust, among other funders.
  • Lead efficient, effective, and compliant financial services to increase the regional impact of CMAP by being a good steward of public funds.
  • Maintain uptodate knowledge of compliance laws, regulations, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), CMAP policies and procedures, etc.
  • Manage all internal and external audit activity (i.e., Single Audit).

Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree (in field or related field), 7 years professional experience, master's degree preferred.

Hiring Range for Principal:
$97,039 - $123,725
