The Chemist should have the:

  • Basic lab experience to be able to work safely in a lab environment.
  • Experience with basic scientific methods for data acquisition, recording, and reporting.
  • Ability to execute laboratory analytical techniques with training (DSC, TGA, DMA, FT-IR, physical performance testing, etc.).
  • Ability to train in a broader range of physical testing and analytical techniques which are available in other groups within Sartomer and Arkema.
  • Ability to write basic lab summaries and reports and to communicate results concisely to their supervisor and other staff members.
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments or the ability to learn and execute such.
  • Ability to participate in a professional organization in order to build external network to achieve project success.

Key Activities include:


Laboratory:


  • Must be able to work safely in a lab environment with proper training.
  • Produce laboratory samples of new formulations and newly developed products using laboratory mixing equipment.
  • Utilize basic scientific methods for data acquisition, recording, and reporting of test data, analytical data, and other laboratory information.
  • Utilize common lab analytical techniques with training (e.g. DSC, TGA, DMA, FT-IR, physical performance testing, etc.).
  • Ability to train in a broader range of physical testing and analytical techniques which are available in other groups within Sartomer and Arkema.
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments or the ability to learn and execute such.
  • Work crossfunctionally with other R&D groups in Sartomer, Arkema/KOP groups, and customer R&D groups.
  • Perform a range of general support tasks such as shipping of products or samples, purchasing new materials, logging materials into a chemical inventory, helping to train new coops and interns.

Reporting and Presentation:


  • Write basic lab summaries and reports to communicate results concisely to their supervisor, other staff members, customers, and external audiences.
  • Maintain a comprehensive laboratory notebook
  • Support the preparation of papers and presentations for publication, patents, or presentation.

Safety:


  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal policies and procedures.
  • Supports and participates in HES programs presented by management and Arkema (e.g. 5S, Behavioral Based Safety, SafeStart, etc.).
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environment, near miss, accident, or injury incidents.

Context and Environment:


  • Support the site HES policy and comply with all regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Participate in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc
    . (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.).
  • Support and promote the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, nearmiss, accident or injury incidents

Required Education/ Qualifications/ Work Experience

Required Qualifications:


Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Material Science or related field with 0-2 years of applicable industry experience in a laboratory technical environment.


  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12 years applicable industrial experience in a laboratory environment preferred
  • Knowledge of waterborne, solvent borne, or UV curable coatings and/or adhesives is a plus
  • Experience with formulation and various characterization equipment.

  • Ability and expertise in generating quality accurate and reliable data.
  • Ability to meet timelines and plan basic lab work independently.
  • Ability to communicate finding and results concisely and clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively with other groups within and external to Sartomer.
