Job Summary:

The Laboratory Supervisor must be team-oriented, proactive, and goal-driven. This position supervises Laboratory Technicians, performs testing, and manages the flow of work through their section of the laboratory.

Will use independence and judgment to recognize and resolve problems within established policies and procedures and is accountable for the quality, timeliness, and accuracy of own work and the work submitted by their team.


Responsibilities:


  • Can independently perform testing and has the associated passing Associate Qualification Assessment for required Lab Tech I and Lab Tech II test for their section;
  • Manages the daytoday flow of work for their section and schedules work for the lab technicians and assistants under their supervision;
  • Works with other lab supervisors and managers to ensure that there is adequate technician coverage in all lab areas;
  • Generates routine client data reports;
  • Can interpret routine testing data and determine if it can be reported or needs to be investigated further;
  • Review routine client data reports generated by the laboratory;
  • Responsible for ensuring laboratory technician adherence to SPL Quality System;
  • Can read test methods and specifications, communicate the details of those test methods and specifications to laboratory technicians, and ensure that testing is completed in accordance with those test methods and specifications;
  • Assist with troubleshooting for any routine test in their section;
  • Ensures that quality control samples for the tests in their section are being performed according to schedule;
  • Ensures that all preventative maintenance for their section is performed according to schedule;
  • Ensure Test Method Assessments for routine tests in their section are completed according to schedule;
  • Provides feedback and coaching to laboratory technicians;
  • Schedules the oncall rotation for their specified lab;
  • Delegates tasks as needed;
  • Adheres to safety policies and requires the same of others;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • A minimum of two (2) years of work experience in the field;
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations;
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office suite to perform job functions;
  • Ability to lead a group of people;
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands;
  • Ability to keep accurate records;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats;
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form;
  • Ability to work with chemical, petroleum, and petrochemical products;
  • Indepth knowledge of the SPL Quality Manual;
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in a Chemistry or science-related field


Relocation:

This position is not eligible for relocation.
