    Role

    An education support class position at this level involves tasks carried out according to guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision. This may include coordinating other education support class staff in the work area or educational program.

    An education support class position supports the educational services provided to students without including duties of a teacher as defined in the Education and Training Reform Act 2006. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups of up to 4 in controlled circumstances where the responsibility remains with a teacher.

    Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years may be necessary at this level.

    A role at this level may include:

    • Specific support tasks to achieve outcomes, accountability for a single function, or coordination of a work area under supervision.
    • Assisting teachers within an educational program with specific support tasks.
    • Supervised health and wellbeing support tasks, medical intervention support tasks, or other specialized student/teacher support roles.
    • Technical tasks requiring knowledge of technical and/or scientific principles.

    An education support class position at this level initially involves undertaking routine tasks under supervision. As experience is gained, the employee may progress to coordination, specialized support tasks, or technical tasks.

    Responsibilities

    • Provides routine support for teachers including assisting with student routines.
    • Supports communication between teachers and parents.
    • Communicates with teachers on routine matters related to students.
    • Provides basic care and support for students' physical wellbeing.
    • Communicates with students to support comprehension of tasks and information.
    • Addresses immediate behavioral issues relating to specific students.
    • Provides support and supervision for groups of up to 4 students.
    • Supports teachers in coordinating educational programs, including rostering and organizing a team of aides.
    • Provides medical intervention support to students, under specific conditions.
    • Provides specialized communication support for students and teachers.
