- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited curriculum (or recognized equivalency).
- A minimum of six (6) years of related engineering work experience.
- Demonstrated broad knowledge and proficiency in power generation, electrical engineering, and plant operations, preferably in an electric utility environment.
- Ability to demonstrate the unique technical skills and core competencies.
- Strong knowledge of computer applications, power systems design, and documentation required to provide plant engineering protection and control support.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate technical processes based on process data, and the ability to develop solutions to problems in equipment performance.
- PE (Professional Engineer) licensure preferred.
- A Master's Degree or registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) will equate to one (1) year of experience.

- Analyze, design, and monitor electrical protection and control systems for generation equipment to ensure optimum operational security, safety, reliability, and overall system integrity which minimizes the probability of system outages and ultimately preserves the generation of electrical energy to customers.
- Assists in analyzing and developing protective relay settings, relay coordination, short circuit, load flow, or impact studies as well as other various protection system studies of Seminole generation facilities to predict, analyze and verify performance under various operating conditions.
- Assists in preparing protective relay equipment specifications, settings coordination, control / logic schemes for implementation in the field.
- Reviews generation system events and faults with other departments or entities to identify protection system issues.
- Responds to customer requests regarding facility / load additions that may include protection system analysis, planning, and coordination studies which result in protective system changes.
- Performs Arc Flash analysis and other protective equipment support for field engineers or personnel.
- Reviews new generation and generation expansion or replacement projects to ensure compatibility with existing and future protection system design.
- Research, propose, develop, test, and implement new or improved protective relay scheme design standards using innovative design approaches available to the electrical utility industry.
- Directly interfaces with Seminole Electric Cooperative Generation workgroups (i.e., Operations, Maintenance, etc.,) and leadership regarding plant protection and control issues and improvement initiatives.
- Develops and performs maintenance of system modeling and databases for generation assets.
- Acts as a subject matter expert for associated NERC reliability standards by developing process controls and participating in internal compliance adherence processes as well as compliance audits.
- Provides subject matter expert support on best practices and approaches to ensure that proper protection techniques are being utilized and implemented internally as well as externally if external entity facilities are impacting.
- Develops and maintains standards, specifications, and procedures as appropriate.
- Maintains engineering proficiency through participating in industry reliability / protection forums or organizations which may include accepting lead roles or opportunities in such forums or organizations.
- Coordinates/leads projects or portions of projects (including phases such as asset planning, project development, design, equipment selection, procurement, installation, and commissioning).
- Supports bid/evaluation processes including preparation of bid documents, completion of technical evaluations for proposals; provide recommendations for selection, etc. Partners & communicates with areas such as Supply Chain & Legal following appropriate processes.
- Represents group at internal/external meetings, forums, etc.
- Provides guidance to fellow engineers on technical matters.
- Participates in the SECI Business Continuity and Emergency Action Plans

Under general direction, responsible for engineering protection and control activities associated with Seminole generating facilities. Demonstrates complete understanding and wide application of engineering technical principle, theories, and concepts in the power plant. Works independently with minimal guidance using knowledge of generation protection and I&C engineering concepts. May provide guidance and direction to other Seminole employees to support production of high quality, timely and cost-effective engineering solutions to technical problems. Represents the organization in providing solutions to technical issues associated often requiring coordination between generation plants and other organizations within Seminole. Responsible for (and may lead) multiple projects of moderate to large size.

Physical Requirements

Working Conditions
Some travel, overnight stays, and work outside of normal business hours to existing and future transmission facilities, substation and generator sites as required. While working in certain areas of substations and/or switchyards, there is the potential for exposure to hazards typical of an industrial working environment as well as in temperatures at times exceeding 100 °ree;F.
