NorthStar Memorial Group is seeking a Controller.

The Controller is responsible for the maintenance of all financial records and the controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results and ensure that reported results comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).


Responsibilities:


  • Direct the daily operations of the Accounting Department which includes general ledger, accounts payable and regulatory reporting
  • Ensure that internal financial controls are functioning properly and effectively in accordance with GAAP
  • Research technical accounting issues for resolution
  • Review and manage compliance with local, state and federal government reporting requirements such as, but not limited to, sales tax, property tax and documentary tax
  • Manage the financial audit request to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of audited financials
  • Coordinate the internal control audit requests specific to the Accounting Department to ensure timely delivery to the auditors
  • Review current GAAP pronouncements to determine relevance to the financials and applicable footnote disclosures
  • Effectively manage, motivate and develop the Accounting Department
  • Direct the hiring, terminating, promoting and compensation for the Accounting Department
  • Assisting the Vice President of Accounting and Financial Reporting with adhoc projects and tasks.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of financial accounting experience
  • 5+ years of management experience
  • 3+ years of Big 4 public accounting experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Certified Professional Accountant required
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, financial reports and legal documents
  • Ability to effectively present information to management and public groups
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to respond to inquires from both internal and external customers
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks and projects
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
