As a Chemist (Analytical), your typical work assignments may include:

Serving as a Chemist responsible for performing a wide range of chemical tests and analyses in support of the laboratory mission.
Evaluating analytical chemistry procedures and technology for the analyses of illicit drug materials.
Performing investigations, analysis, and interpretation of the composition, physical and chemical properties of substances.
Collecting and interpreting scientific data such as newly gathered statistics, observations, instrument readings, measurements and specimens in terms of their scientific significance.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirement

Degree:
physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics;
OR

Combination of education and experience:

course work equivalent to a Degree in a major as described in above paragraph; including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Specialized Experience

In addition to the Basic Requirement, one year of specialized experience is required that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) or competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position.
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience.

Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

GS-07 Level:

One (1) full year of graduate level education;
OR
Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA).

In order to be creditable under this provision, SAA must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position and is based on:

Class Standing:
Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class, based on completed courses;

Grade Point Average:

applicants must have a grade point average of: 3.0 or higher: Based on 4 years of education or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR; 3.5 or higher: Based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR; Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society: Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies.

Education:
Two (2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree _or_ master's or equivalent graduate degree;
OR

Combination of Education and Experience:

A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
