The Oral Examination will assess fundamental knowledge and ability for this position.

A total score will be computed using weighted scores on all testing components. Applicants must receive a passing score on the performance examination to be placed on the 6 Month-long eligibility list.

The top 3 ranks (scores) on the eligibility list are eligible for the hiring interview for each vacancy in this classification within the life of the list.


BASIC POSITION FUNCTION

Under general supervision, perform custodial services required to maintain assigned buildings or facility areas in a clean, orderly, and secure manner; keep inventory of assigned materials and items and perform minor, non-technical maintenance related repairs.


DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS BETWEEN RELATED CLASSES


The incumbents in a Custodian class receive basic on-the-job training as it pertains to cleaning schedules and routines; incumbents work independently in maintaining the cleanliness, appearance and safety of an assigned area at a District school or facility; and may provide work direction to student workers assigned as custodian helpers.

The Lead Custodian class serves as the lead worker at a large school or District facility; it is distinguished from a Custodian in that in addition to handling a regular cleaning assignment, incumbents coordinate activities between custodial staff assigned to the site, are responsible for ensuring cleaning assignments are properly completed and custodial staff has the necessary supplies to complete their assignments.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:


Sweep, scrub, mop, strip, wax and polish floors and vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices, and walkways; use carpet extractor to spot clean and deep clean carpets as necessary.

Dust, wash, and clean blinds, shades, and furniture, including shelves, desks, light fixtures, and equipment.


Clean, scrub and disinfect restrooms, showers and related areas, including toilets, urinals, sinks and other bathroom fixtures; fill dispensers with towels, soap, toilet paper and other items; use plunger to unclog minor clogs in sinks and toilets.


Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors with specified solutions or cleaning products using sponges and squeegees; clean and polish furniture, woodwork and metal work.

Empty and clean waste receptacles; empty pencil sharpeners; clean chalkboards/whiteboards and erasers.


Move, assemble, and disassemble furniture, including chairs, desks and partitions, material supplies and equipment between classrooms, and District sites; set-up and put together chairs, tables and other furniture and equipment for special events and activities.

Sweep, blow and/or hose down concrete and blacktop surfaces adjacent to the school buildings.


Maintain security of buildings during assigned work times by locking/unlocking doors, windows, gates, and setting alarms; raise/lower the flag as assigned.


Maintain assigned floor maintenance equipment in good operating condition by cleaning and making minor non-technical repairs; change light bulbs and lamps.

Cover or remove graffiti from desks, walls, lockers, bathrooms, buildings by cleaning with appropriate solutions or paint.

Maintain inventory and routine records, and assist in the ordering of new equipment and supplies.

Maintain and use appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g. gloves, goggles, respirator) when required.

Perform emergency shut off of major utility services and operate emergency generators depending on assigned work site.

Report safety, unsanitary and fire hazards to supervisor and appropriate Maintenance & Operations department personnel.

May perform limited grounds keeping duties seasonally and/or when working overtime assignments.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS:


Education/Experience:


Sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above, typically met by an accumulation of experience equaling to
at least six months of paid and/or volunteer verifiable custodial experience in an organizational setting.
