JOB SUMMARY:
The Payroll Director is responsible for leading the MER organization through the payroll integration with MER's parent company. This includes the selection and potential conversion to a different HCM. Additionally, the Payroll Director is responsible for the overall management of the payroll function for the company.
This includes leading a team of payroll professionals, including a payroll manager, to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll across the organization while complying with all applicable payroll laws and regulations.
The Payroll Director provides consultation services and support to employees, managers, and various departments on payroll-related matters.In addition, the incumbent recommends, implements, and promotes payroll policies and procedures consistent with legal requirements and the culture of the organization.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited, to:
Lead and manage the MER payroll integration with parent company and ensure successful adaptation of the existing or new HCM (ADP to UKG or UKG to ADP).
Oversee the payroll process for the company, including:Ensuring payroll is accurate and timely.
Ensuring compliance with all applicable payroll laws and regulations.
Resolving payroll discrepancies.
Resolving any issues or errors in the payroll system.
Communicating with employees and managers on payroll-related matters.
Processing payroll as needed.
Lead a team of payroll professionals.
Provide training and development.
Set performance goals and expectations.
Evaluate performance.
Stay up to date on changes in payroll laws and regulations.
Develop and implement new written payroll policies and procedures and/or revise existing policies and procedures.
Ensure maximum use of the HCM's capabilities to augment payroll efficiencies.
Create long-term and short-term strategic goals for continuous improvement of the payroll activities of the organization.
Maintain advanced levels of knowledge of the company payroll system(s) and act as the internal expert on all payroll related matters.
Oversee the payroll aspects of the annual 401(k) audit.Oversee and facilitate the generation of payroll related financial reporting.
Oversee and facilitate weekly certified payroll reporting, union and/or prevailing wage calculations, and any other related reporting or notifications.
Monitor payroll systems and correct any system issues or errors.
Act as the ADP Time and Attendance system administrator responsible for adding, editing, and/or deleting all Time and Attendance elements including pay codes, time off policies and profiles, work rules, etc.
Oversee the timely review and filing of tax filings in ADP Smart Compliance.Ensure all tax jurisdictions are correctly maintained and resolve all tax errors or issues.
Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure employee related data integrity within ADP.
Identify and implement opportunities for automation within ADP and beyond.
Work with other departments to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll information.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or a related field.
Minimum 5 or more years in a similar senior level payroll leadership position.
Minimum 10+ years of strong, progressive 'hands on' payroll processing experience in multi-location environments, including preparing and reconciling payroll taxes, and generating automated and ad hoc reports for internal and external constituencies.
Previous experience with payroll integrations.Expert computer skills using MS Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer and integrated/automated systems.
Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll accounting system. Experience with ADP Enhanced Time and Attendance and ADP Workforce Now.
Experience with UKG Ready Kronos Payroll and HRIS Systems.
Multi state processing and tax experience.
Union and certified payroll reporting experience.
Demonstrated exceptional leadership skills.
Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy around complex data.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work to meet all deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work well independently and with all organizational levels within a team environment.
Ability to travel overnight as required by business needs.This position is currently hybrid and will require a minimum of 3 days in the office.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
