JOB OVERVIEW:

Sanford Federal, Inc.

Is looking for fourteen (14) Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to support the Health Administration Service of the Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System at Los Angeles Healthcare System.


REQUIREMENTS:

1- We need fourteen (14) Emergency Medical Technicians, Hours of work may be flexible as determined by the VA. Overtime and Holiday Hours may be authorized as determined by the VA.

2- EMTs shall poses Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification and First Aid Certification

3- EMTs shall provide copies of valid California Department of Transportation Class B with Passenger P Endorsement and air brake Commercial Drivers License (CDL)


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1- The EMT shall work with the Veterans Transportation Service to provide transportation services for veterans in inpatient ambulatory settings, facilitate the manual transportation of ambulatory, wheelchair, and/or gurney-bound patients, and perform ongoing patient care duties during patient transport.

2- The EMT shall transport patients to and from vehicles and their healthcare appointments.


3- The EMT shall transport and/or assist in the transportation of patients from their homes to their healthcare appointments on VA campuses or return patients from receiving healthcare on VA campuses to their homes.


4- The EMT shall verify passengers against manifest and complete paperwork such as trip tickets and records indicating the amount and type of fuel dispensed.

The EMT shall adhere to all State, local, and installation traffic laws and ordinances.

The EMT shall be required to maneuver the vehicle in and out of constricted areas including narrow city streets/roadways and congested parking lots which include maneuvering the bus around sharp corners.

5- The EMT shall operate and provide preventative maintenance checks and services for patient transport vehicles (e.g. monitoring fluid levels, replacing air filters and interior lights, checking tire pressure and hose connections, and washing the vehicle).

The EMT is required to operate a variety of passenger buses on scheduled or special runs from one location to another.

They are required to operate passenger ambulance buses which are equipped with litter facilities and other medical support equipment.

These vehicles are driven with the same medical mission, driving conditions, and requirements as described for ambulance/patient transport vehicle drivers at the lower grade level, except that the EMT operates larger and longer vehicles occupied by patients, patient family members, and medical personnel.


6- The EMT shall prioritize transport for patients and may employ a variety of established techniques, methods, and equipment during transport to the appropriate destination.


7- The EMT shall follow safety procedures, utilize safety equipment, and monitor the work environment to ensure the safety of patients and employees.

8- The EMT shall independently recognize unusual or life-threatening situations and act according to established protocols.

The EMT shall independently intervene using established protocols (Basic or Advanced Life Support) to prevent deterioration of the patient's condition or restore hemodynamic stability and provide continuous observation and monitoring until the patient is transferred for definitive treatment.

9- The EMT is the first contact with the veterans and is responsible for making the first positive impression. The EMT shall interact in a courteous and respectful manner with a wide variety of people each day.

10- The EMT shall routinely coordinate transportation activities with the Veterans Transportation Staff.

The EMT shall be responsible for keeping a record of passengers and ensuring pick-ups and drop-offs are for the correct individual and address.

The EMT shall not make unscheduled or unapproved stops.

11- Shall be familiar with Patient-Centered Care culture in healthcare.

12- Shall hold Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certification.


13- Shall hold valid California Department of Transportation Class "B" with Passenger "P" endorsement and air brake Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
