Description

Performance Responsibilities: 1.Develops and delivers specialized instruction to students with disabilities in a substantially separate classroom. Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals including but not limited to discrete trial training and programming.2.Provides research-based specialized instruction including but not limited to ABA methodologies and practices to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). 3.Employs a variety of assistive technology tools to help students access the curriculum.4.Implement Behavior Intervention Plans and work with Behavior Specialist/School Adjustment Counselor on class wide interventions.5.Functions as a liaison, coordinating the instruction and related services to assigned students.6.

Develops and implements annual IEP plans for students to include:

present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.

7.Adheres to procedural requirements, including due process timelines.


  • Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP. 9.Serves as primary contact for the parent.10.Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises or during school activities by communicating expectations of appropriate behavior. 11.Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures.12.

Provides instructional direction to paraprofessional support staff:

assigns activities, provides guidance and instructional oversight.13.Collaborates and consults with educational professionals and community service providers (i.e., social services, public health, medical providers, etc.) regarding the needs of students.

14.Provides consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students from the sub-separate classroom who participate in the inclusion setting.15.Provides professional expertise and assistance to individuals, other district staff and the community concerning areas of instructional expertise/knowledge.


  • Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars, district and departmental meetings.17.Keeps abreast of changing developments, trends, instructional and educational technologies.18.Any other related duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal and/or Director of Student Services.19.Has trained or is willing to train through the Safety Care Curriculum and obtain proper certification.
