Reporting to the Director for Student Development & Campus Vibrancy, the Assistant Director will have the primary responsibility for the oversight of student organization advising and development, concentrating on building relationships, developing strong student leaders, and empowering students to be creative in their efforts to contribute to a strong vibrant community.

The Assistant Director is charged with assisting with this mission by forming partnerships with students and other community stakeholders to champion the creation, management, implementation, and sustainability of a holistic co-curricular experience for Stetson University students.

The Assistant Director is primarily responsible for advising clubs and organizations, coordinating and planning weekend programs and events alongside students, and developing student pathways that will lead to student connectedness and belongingness within a vibrant social construct.

This position works in partnership with the Director and Assistant Director for Student Organization Finance and Union Operations, setting procedures, policies, and guidelines to enable our student groups to be successful.

This position is a full-time position with some evening and weekend responsibilities.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Through a strong student empowerment model, the Assistant Director will:

  • Manage the administrative duties, promotions, and processes related to student clubs and organizations to include directing, administering, and promoting Stetson's organization and community building management software, Engage; maintaining updated student organization and club directories and leadership rosters; maintaining and communicating for student org and club advisors; and maintaining records and documentation related to student organization and club programming
  • Coach student organizations and student groups regarding cultural, educational, recreational, and other cocurricular programs, which includes proper development of student leaders to ensure effective program planning and execution, alignment with departmental mission, vision, and goals; strategic calendaring amongst student group activities; and partnering with the appropriate campus partners to ensure effective training and monthly development opportunities or mixers for student leaders throughout the academic year
  • Coach and advise student organizations regarding event planning and campus vibrancy to ensure quality program planning by student leaders, emphasizing the importance of a vibrant community
  • Encourage and shift the culture to capitalize on weekend programming and to offer activities and engagement opportunities to students throughout the entirety of the week
  • Coordinate recurring student organizational initiatives such as the renewal process, involvement fairs, and advisor education
  • Assist with administrative oversight for all recognized clubs and student organizations, ensuring student and staff development
  • Build strong relationships with students and advisors in efforts to empower student organizations to play an active role in the growth and enhancement of our community, fostering connection and belonging
  • Develop effective campus partnerships to champion and create highlevel use of Engage software to position the software as the central virtual location for engagement, community building, and student connection; promotional and marketing plans should outline intended efforts and expected outcomes
  • Develop and update all applicable student orgs and clubs' policies and manuals; update and distribute advisor manual and strategic programming
  • Provide ongoing and recurring programming within the Carlton Student Union Building (CUB), to include evenings and weekends, that is in partnership with student organizations
  • Support Student Media initiatives through advising of Hatter Network, which includes The Reporter (Stetson's news magazine), Touchstone (literary arts journal), and W-HAT Radio
  • Assist with the development and implementation of SDCV departmentled initiatives, including, but not limited to, large scale programming, assisting with orientation sessions, and fostering collaborative opportunities with campus partners
  • Lead for Home Team coordination during FOCUS Orientation
  • Perform other duties and serve on department, division, and university committees as assigned
