PURPOSE OF POSITION:


Under the direction of Bellevue's Special Pathogens Program (SPP) leadership, the Special Pathogens Infection Preventionist will promote staff safety while caring for patients with special pathogens through the development and delivery of comprehensive training programs and the development, maintenance and implementation of protocols and standard operating procedures.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Develop and maintain training curricula and plan(s) for staff/disciplines involved in any aspects of Bellevue's Special Pathogens Response including but not limited to: nursing, physicians, lab. techs, Infection Preventionists, and environmental services.
  • Ensure identified staff are scheduled for and attend the required training(s).
  • Assist in the development and implementation training competency assessments.
  • Maintain easily accessible, electronic up to date records of all training events.
  • Prepare training compliance reports to be shared with program leadership at the end of each month, and with hospital leadership on a quarterly basis.
  • Perform ongoing assessments of training efficacy.
  • Maintain inventory of training center supplies. Request and stock additional supplies as needed.
  • Assist in the development and modification of protocols related to Bellevue's Special Pathogens Response.
  • Support the planning and execution of simulations, drills, and exercises that test and inform Bellevue's Special Pathogens Preparedness and Response.
  • Supports the planning and execution regional training throughout Region
  • When functioning in the role of the Infection Control Monitor during SPU activation
  • Must be present in the Special Pathogens Unit (SPU) as scheduled and/or needed.
  • Guide/oversee donning and doffing events.
  • Monitor for, address and report any safety and/or infection control concerns.
  • Support healthcare worker monitoring procedures.
  • Maintain close communication with Unit Lead and report any safety and/or infection control concerns to him/her.
  • Provide a summary report to the Unit Leader of observations made during the shift.
  • Serve as a lead for various timelimited projects to improve special pathogens preparedness and response activities as needed.
  • Attend program meetings including but not limited to: weekly internal SPP meeting, and Monthly SPP Committee meeting.
  • Collaborate with Central Office's Special Pathogens program and other initiatives that align with the vision and intent of Bellevue's SPP as needed.
  • Prepare documents, flyers, agendas, messages, presentations and other materials as needed.
  • Support other duties as directed by SPP leadership.
  • Attends and contributes to inservices, trainings, and staff meetings as needed
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt schedule based on the training and education needs and activation of the SPU
Support the delivery of the overall program and its activities in accordance to the mission and goals of the Special Pathogens

  • Establishes and maintains a positive, supportive, and professional rapport with patients, coworkers, and members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Assist in unit and hospital operational preparedness
  • Assists with the development and implementation of functional and table top drills for Special Pathogens both in house and in collaboration with the Central Office
