    ACOS Diagnostic Radiology - Detroit, United States - Veterans Health Administration

    Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.

    You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

    Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

    Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the
    Basic Requirements:

    • as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement
    • Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met
    • Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation

    Basic Requirements:

    United States Citizenship:
    Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy

    • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
    • The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
    • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia

    Residency Training:
    Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification

    NOTE:
    VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.)

    Approved residencies are:
    (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences

    • Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs)
    • PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis
    • PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision
    • Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English
    Preferred Experience: 5 years Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard

    Physical Requirements:

    Authorized Pay:
    Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

    Dingell Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) is seeking a transformative and visionary leader for an Associate Chief of Staff for Radiology Service (ACOS Radiology), reporting directly to the Deputy Chief of Staff.

    In addition to general Radiology, subspecialties aligned under the Radiology Service include Computed Tomography Scanning, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultra Sound, Interventional Radiology, Bone Density, Nuclear Medicine, Cardiac Imaging, and certain vascular procedures in the Operating Room.

    Applicants must be US citizens, have an M.D. or D.O.

    degree, possess American Board Certification in Radiology, have demonstrated administrative and leadership experience (ideally as Service Chief or Department Chair), and possess the necessary research and educational accomplishments to qualify for an academic appointment at our physically adjacent affiliate, Wayne State University School of Medicine (WSU-SOM).

    The candidate should be an inspiring and effective role model, innovative thinker, customer-service focused, and have proven clinical excellence, with exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

    The ability to motivate, develop, and monitor medical staff as part of multidisciplinary teams to achieve quality outcomes, optimize clinic capacity and utilization of resources, and maximize operating room efficiency to meet required performance measures is essential.

    Although the role is predominantly administrative, the ACOS Radiology will also be expected to practice within their specialty, foster a supportive teaching environment, and assist in the development of research programs.

    The VAMC serves as a major WSU-SOM site for pre-and post-graduate education in medicine, surgery, and psychiatry. A growing basic and clinical research program now exceeds $8 million in total annual funding.

    The ACOS Radiologist will be working with a great team of radiologists and technologists, support staff, and will enjoy the following new, top-of-the-line, medical imaging systems being installed currently at the Detroit VA: a 3T PET-MRI, a 3T wide-bore MRI, a dual source multidetector CT, XR systems, 2 Fluoroscopy systems, and an Angiography suite.

    This VAMC is a state-of-the-art 108 bed tertiary care medical, surgical, and psychiatric facility with an 84 bed nursing home care unit, a 50 bed off-site Domiciliary, and three community-based outpatient clinics.

    Over 2,400 employees provide dedicated service to Veterans from throughout southeastern Michigan.

    We are located in the heart of Detroit's cultural and medical center that includes museums, seven hospitals, and Wayne State University.

    Detroit is an active and developing urban area, where a significant amount of gentrification and cultural re-birth have occurred over the past decade.

    The Medical Center is located directly next to the academic affiliate (Wayne State University) in the center of Detroit's Cultural District (in Mid-town Detroit).

    The Medical Center is walking distance to the Science Center, Museum of African American History and the Detroit Institute of Art.

    A new public transportation system in the city of Detroit currently picks up passengers one block from the Medical Center, and commutes to the rest of Detroit's main attractions within a 10 minute train ride, from dining to attractions like the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the four professional sports team stadiums (Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings).
