    POSITION FEATURES:

    Training provided for a registered nurse role

    PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

    The professional registered nurse Outpatient RN CAP 1 enters the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) as an entry-level designation. This role is responsible for delivering competent care through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for a specific group of patients. Duties include delegating tasks to patient care staff like RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians. As part of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) healthcare team, responsibilities include decision-making, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    All responsibilities are to be carried out in line with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, procedures, and nursing standards, as well as state and federal regulations.

    • Perform essential functions under supervision and guidance
    • Collect and analyze patient data throughout hemodialysis treatment
    • Assess and address patient/family learning needs
    • Oversee safe delivery of hemodialysis therapy
    • Administer medications as prescribed
    • Respond to emergencies
    • Participate in training and orientation of staff
    • Ensure proper laboratory procedures
    • Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team for patient care
    • Inform patients about treatment options
    • Complete CAP requirements for advancement
    • Perform other assigned duties

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Employee may need to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and bend over. Work environment includes exposure to health care settings, noise, and potential infectious materials.

    • Direct patient care involves heavy lifting
    • Frequent standing and bending required
    • Moving heavy equipment with assistance
    • Exposure to infectious materials
    • Interaction with patients and healthcare staff
    • Possible travel to other facilities
    • Color blindness test may be required

    SUPERVISION:

    Responsibility for overseeing Patient Care Technicians/LPNs/LVNs/RNs after meeting specific requirements.

    • Completion of FKC education and training
    • Minimum 9 months RN experience
    • Minimum 3 months experience in hemodialysis

    EDUCATION and LICENSURE:

    • Graduate of an accredited Nursing School
    • Current state licensure
    • CPR BLS Certification
    • Meet practice requirements in the state of employment

    EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Entry-level for RNs with less than 1 year nephrology experience in the last two years
    • Minimum 9 months RN experience (preferred)
    • Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience (preferred)
