The authorization specialist is a non-licensed position that obtains authorizations for the campus service lines of services ordered by providers of Cottage Hospital and Rowe Health Center such as radiology, surgical, physical therapy, occupational therapy, cardiac rehab, speech therapy, infusion therapy, procedure room, Emergency Veteran Administration 72-hour, and inpatient admission for the medical surgical unit.

Position will complete authorizations primarily electronic but use other resources such as phone and faxing as secondary process. Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to organization's policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements. Communicated through appropriate channels and uses the chain of command for patient complaints._

  • Services not processed by authorization specialist are medications, medication refills, STAT orders, and Ray of Hope inpatient admissions._
  • High school diploma/GED. Must be computer literate and able to navigate through the Electronic Health Record (EHR)_ _
  • Experience in medical billing, insurance authorization, medical terminology, and ability to multitask in a fastpaced work environment_
