Lab and Research Technician, Varying Levels - Charlottesville, United States - University of Virginia
Description
University of Virginia Comprehensive Cancer Center seeks an experienced laboratory technician with expertise in basic cancer cell and drug effects; those with an experience in molecular biology will be preferred.
The appropriate candidate should have direct working experience with methods to understand the activity of cancer drugs: cell effects, as well as a familiarity studying mechanism of action of drugs and or biologics in in vitro or in vivo models of cancer.
Candidates with expertise using more sophisticated molecular techniques like CRISPR, flow cytometry, and confocal microscopy are highly encouraged to apply, though lack experience with these techniques is not exclusionary.
The ideal candidate would ideally have some interest and/or experience in conducting experiments in small animal (murine) models.The candidate will assist senior laboratory members in experimental design and execution of planed experiments.
S/he will be fully integrated into a well-funded (R01, American Cancer Society Research support, major funding through the Translational Orphan Blood Cancer Research Initiative) world-class laboratory with over 100 years of experience conducting state-of-the-art research and drug discovery and development focused on blood cancers.
Successful candidates must have effective communication skills as evidenced by favorable team interactions. Professional development and career advancement opportunities will be strongly supported. The candidate will report directly to Owen A. O'Connor, M.D., Ph.D. in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematologic Oncology.

High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
At least 1 year of lab experience, which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.

At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
