- Providing technical assistance with the City's wellhead protection plans.
- Scheduling and performing field inspections to verify consumer compliance.
- Perform plan reviews, field inspections, and other duties regarding development and environmental compliance.
- Perform hydraulic modeling for all new subdivisions; maintain and keep current the City wide hydraulic model.
- Organize, plan, manage, and administer, the City hazardous materials disposal program, in compliance with all recognized laws and regulations regarding hazardous materials disposal.
- Working with department heads and the media to provide public education, staff training, and field inspections to verify environmental compliance with the City's various environmental programs.
- Prepare written reports to be submitted to local, state and federal officials with regard to the City's environmental compliance.
- Perform all work according to standard safety polices, procedures, and practices.
- Aid the Public Works Departments and the Solid Waste personnel in maintaining existing and new landfill permits, air quality permits, permit modifications for landfill expansions, and other technical requirements of the City's Municipal Landfill facilities.
- State and federal environmental regulations related to water, storm water, wastewater, and landfills.
- Hazardous materials disposal and record retention.
- Various pre-treatment programs dealing with storm water and bio-waste systems.
- Cross-control protection programs as associated with the protection of a domestic water system.
- Engineering mechanics of construction.
- Engineering plans and specifications.
- Mathematical principles including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Principles and practices of engineering construction inspection.
- Knowledge of accepted safety polices, procedures and practices.
- Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and software.
- Principles and procedures of record keeping.
- Operate modern office equipment and software.
- Operate field testing equipment.
- Operate a motor vehicle safely.
- Apply laws, regulations, codes, and departmental policies governing the compliance with environmental issues as they arise.
- To work and communicate with regulators and the general public regarding permit compliance.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records.
- Prepare clear and concise technical reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work in a spirit of cooperation with the City's many employees, department heads, elected officials, and with the general public.
- Experience in the fields of municipal water, wastewater treatment, storm water management, and/or landfill regulation and compliance is highly desirable.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in environmental permitting or environmental engineering, or the combination of education and experience that allows the incumbent to perform the tasks assigned.
- Associates Degree in environmental science or related field, a four year degree is preferred.

Description
Reporting to the Development Manager, the position will be responsible for performing environmental permitting, assisting the Water Reclamation Facility staff in the implementation of the City's Wastewater Pretreatment Program, and working with the Development Department to implement and manage the City's Storm Water Management Program. The Environmental Coordinator will assist the Engineering and Water Departments to implement cross-connection control requirements within the City. This position will also perform duties at the Landfill involving environmental issues such as permitting and compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
