Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in epidemiology, public health, biology, infection control, statistics/biostatistics, biomedical science, environmental health, environmental science or a closely related degree and four years of professional post-degree scientific research experience in epidemiology or related field; or a Master's degree in one of the above mentioned fields and three years of post-degree professional scientific research in epidemiology or related field; or a Doctorate in one of the above mentioned fields and one year of post-degree professional scientific research in epidemiology or a related field.


Duties Description

  • Oversee sampling procedures and ensure that monthly samples are prepared in a timely manner, and ensure that annual birth file is sent to CDC in a timely manner;
  • Oversee data collection and management procedures including mailing and interview procedures;
  • Develop a high level of proficiency with all PRAMS software, including PIDS, the PRAMS Integrated Data Collection System, and PRAMStat;
  • Align analysis plans with key state initiatives including the Prevention Agenda and other Maternal and Child Health initiatives:
  • Organize relevant analytic workgroups to develop reports and data products including Data to Action reports, presentations, and professional manuscripts;
  • Coordinate with NYC PRAMS program to produce statewide dataset; and
  • Use SAS and Tableau to update and expand components of the PRAMS surveillance website and PRAMS dashboard that are tailored to major stakeholder's needs and assist with assessment of burden; identification of populations with large disparities; targeting of interventions; and evaluating progress.

Responsibility 4:
Coordinate with statewide partners, provide technical assistance, respond to data requests (15%)

Illustrative Tasks:

  • Act as the liaison between New York State (including the Project Director and the Steering Committee) and CDC in matters that relate to PRAMS on an ongoing basis;
  • Organize the Steering Committee and convene and attend meetings;
  • Present as necessary to Maternal and Child Health partners to support programmatic goals and major strategy implementations;
  • Responds to PRAMS data requests including those from internal DOH and outside researchers; and
  • Provide technical assistance for the use of data in planning and evaluating interventions and services.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position.

Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
