- Performs outreach in the community to inform community members, in culturally relevant language, about research opportunities available at the University.
- Enrolls interested people in research, conducts health intake and assists in linking participants with other studies throughout the University.
- Refers community members to available resources, from medical and social services to opportunities offered.
- Arranges language translation or interpretation services as needed.
- Assists in arranging transportation to facilitate study enrollment.
- Provides follow-up with participants by phone regarding study enrollment and satisfaction.
- Contacts study coordinators to provide referrals and track participant enrollment.
- Assists in building partnerships with community agencies.
- Maintains proper documentation and record keeping.
- Interactive communication skills with ability to work with physicians, coordinators and patients.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Able to complete paperwork in timely manner with excellent accuracy.
- High school diploma or equivalent certification and three years of relevant experience in community health, human services, outreach or within a health care setting is required or bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work or a related field.
- REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements). Attainment of the Community Health Worker Certificate is required within six months of hire.

Position Summary
This individual will serve a valuable role within the Division of Gynecologic Oncology by assisting patients with their unmet social needs in order to prioritize their cancer care. Our mission is to deliver exceptional clinical service to prevent and treat gynecologic cancers with equity, thereby improving lives through research, advocacy, and education. The community health worker will work directly with underserved individuals and their families, engaging in community outreach, providing navigation around the hospital and Siteman Cancer Center, and lending support to patients as they learn about clinical trials. Time will be split between two outpatient clinics within the Center for Outpatient Health--one that focuses on cervical cancer prevention, and the other that serves individuals who are at risk or have a gynecologic cancer. The individual will also split time with Radiation Oncology.
