Responsibilities:


Under close supervision of the Clinic Manager/ RN Case Managers, the
Certified HBO Technician Provides Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to all referred patients requiring Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments.

Position requires administration and monitoring of oxygen treatments within the services scope of practice; works collaboratively with all other disciplines at the Wound Center.

Prepares all patients referred for treatment, documents all care provided accurately and completely according to hospital and department policy.

Operates chambers and prepares patients for Hyperbaric treatments, discussing procedure details and educating patient on chamber safety, ear clearing techniques.

Takes & records patient vital signs and blood glucose prior to and after hyperbaric treatments. Also requires cleaning & maintenance of Hyperbaric chambers per policy.

The Hyperbaric Safety Director administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider.

This position is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chambers and related support systems, as well as for the safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the hyperbaric patient.

The position is also responsible for the day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chambers and related support systems and serves as the point person for assessment of materials that are appropriate for use in and around hyperbaric chambers.


  • Provide monitoring to HBO patients
  • Hyperbaric technicians administer therapy to patients as prescribed by the patient's physician.
  • Hyperbaric technicians are responsible for keeping detailed medical records in EMR system.
  • Ensure that the systems and equipment are functional and well maintained and perform hyperbaric chamber operations and maintenance as required.
  • Routinely provides related services as requested as measured by coworker feedback and managerial observations. Handles health information in accordance with HIPPA regulations.
  • Recognize change in the patient's condition and intervene appropriately.
  • Submits all charges accurately and timely according to policy as measured by managerial review.
  • Collaborate with other clinical disciplines in developing plan of care.
  • Provide patient education and monitoring and collaborates with team members to provide excellent patient service.
  • Involve patient/family/significant other in developing plan of care.
  • Assessment of learning needs, abilities and readiness to learn.
  • Documentation of teaching activities.
  • Provision of appropriate educational materials, as available prior to discharge.
  • Presents a positive image of Bassett Healthcare and the BHCI through professional appearance and behavior as measured by patient and coworker feedback and managerial observation.
  • Works collaboratively with Cardiology and all hospital departments as measure by coworker feedback and managerial observation.
  • Advocates for patients to ensure that care preserves and protects the patient's autonomy, dignity and rights.
  • Hyperbaric techs escort each patient into the hyperbaric chamber, ensuring the patient feels comfortable, and answer any questions the patient has regarding the treatment.
  • Delivers care in a nonjudgmental and nondiscriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity.
  • Advocates for patient needs as demonstrated by patient or coworker feedback or written exemplar or managerial observation.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude, uses flexibility and innovation while problem solving as measured by direct supervisory observation and coworker feedback.
  • Participates in departmental/organizational committees as assigned as measured by direct supervisory observation and coworker feedback.
  • Participates in department's quality improvement plan and assists in collecting data used for Quality Assurance & Education.
  • Adheres to all Patient Safety Initiatives and Infection Control Procedures as outlined in the hospital's safety manual. Appropriate usage of Hospital resources, supplies and equipment.
  • Documentation of patient data for performance improvement initiatives.
  • Participates in continued education through attendance and presentations at inservice sessions as measured by indirect managerial observation.
  • Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed.
  • Overtime and schedule flexibility may be required to meet patient needs.
  • Performs other duties as requested and observed by the Program Director, CFWH
