This is a full-time temporary, benefit-based position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2025.


The Community & Leadership Development Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting The Nonprofit Institute and the Black InGenious Initiative within SOLES.

This position requires an individual who is passionate about community engagement, leadership development, and equitable opportunities for diverse populations. The coordinator will be responsible for implementing strategies to support students' and families' experiences within the BiGI project.

This role demands a proactive approach to community and program needs, excellent interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Training, coaching, and facilitation skills and a variety of contexts are essential for this position.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The Community & Leadership Development Coordinator will provide direct support to the Black InGenius Initiative (BiGI) and The Nonprofit Institute (NPI)


Key responsibilities include:

Coaching & Training: Organize, design, and facilitate training sessions for BiGI and NPI. These training sessions should focus on equipping leaders with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to effectively lead and engage participants in a variety of program settings.

These settings include but are not limited to:
the BiGI Summer Academy, nonprofit organizations, community partnerships, K-12 and higher education academic settings, and leadership development programs.

Coordination and Data Reporting: Identifies, monitors, and builds relationships with on-campus and community partners to engage and collaborate BiGI and NPI. Act as a liaison between campus faculty, staff, and community stakeholders as assigned. In partnership with NPI leadership team, facilitate connections and networking opportunities within and beyond the university.

Community Engagement and Leadership Development: Designs and delivers leadership development events and community engagement strategies for BiGI and NPI. The coordinator works with both teams to facilitate training, provide coaching of participants, mentor student workers, support student success efforts, and remain current on effective practices in community-based leadership development and equity frameworks.

Feedback and Improvement: Works with NPI Director of Research to collect and analyze data from community and partners to continuously improve the effectiveness of programs.

Research and Grant Writing: Coordinator will support the research committee team within BiGI, meet regularly with the research team of NPI, and be a part of larger teams that identify and seek grant funding for both NPI and BiGI.

  • Organize, design, and facilitate training sessions for BiG and NPI
  • Equip leaders with skills, knowledge, and resources for effective program engagement
  • Participate in the development and implementation of coaching and leadership strategies
  • Act as a point for community partners inquiries and concerns, providing guidance and referrals as needed
  • Utilize researchbased practices and support research and evaluation efforts
  • Support the research committee team within BiGI and collaborate with the NPI research team in program evaluation, qualitative research, action research, and grant writing
  • Engage in continuous professional development related to leadership, coaching, and research and grant writing
  • Ability to manage the demands of a joint appointment, including effective communication and planning skills

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Leadership, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in teaching, counseling, coaching, or a similar role in an educational setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, emotional intelligence, cultural competence, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Leadership, Nonprofit Management, or a related field
  • Experience working in higher education, nonprofits, or similar settings
  • Familiarity with student information systems and educa
